Story
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

Required Reading
Reviewed: 10-26-21
This book should be required reading for all US citizens, especially those who blindly follow the government. Government is full of people, just like us, and they are just as fallible as any of us.
The implications born out of Mr O’Neill’s research are just mind blowing and terrifying. Hopefully he can finally get the ending put to bed soon.

Story
In this characteristically turbocharged new book, celebrated Rolling Stone journalist Matt Taibbi provides an insider's guide to the variety of ways today's mainstream media tells us lies. In the internet age, the press have mastered the art of monetizing anger, paranoia, and distrust. Taibbi, who has spent much of his career covering elections in which this kind of manipulative activity is most egregious, provides a rich taxonomic survey of American political journalism's dirty tricks.

Every American Should Read This Book!
Reviewed: 02-12-21
Finally. Someone entrenched on one “side” of American politics was able to back away and take a look at everything objectively. The two political parties only seek to keep us divided, and media is one of their top tools for doing so. Media’s sole purpose in 2020 and beyond is to divide us, make us hate each other, and sell our media consumption habits to advertisers. We are all being played. Turn off the tv, delete the social media apps, and put down your phones people. Just go live your lives for once.

Story
One night in 1967, 26-year-old John Donohue - known as Chick - was out with friends, drinking in a New York City bar. The friends gathered there had lost loved ones in Vietnam. Now, they watched as anti-war protesters turned on the troops themselves. One neighborhood patriot came up with an inspired - some would call it insane - idea. Someone should sneak into Vietnam, track down their buddies there, give them messages of support from back home, and share a few laughs over a can of beer. It would be the Greatest Beer Run Ever.

Widely hailed as a spiritual classic, this inspirational and unfailingly powerful story reveals the life and visions of the Lakota healer Nicholas Black Elk (1863–1950) and the tragic history of his Sioux people during the epic closing decades of the Old West. In 1930, the aging Black Elk met a kindred spirit, the famed poet, writer, and critic John G. Neihardt (1881–1973) on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

Upon his return, he was swept up in the traditionalist Ghost Dance movement and shaken by the massacre at Wounded Knee. But Black Elk was not a warrior, and instead chose the path of a healer and holy man, motivated by a powerful prophetic vision that haunted and inspired him.

This reads like a book report or cliff notes on the book, I Hear You Paint Houses. I was hoping to pick up some new stories, or different accounts than I Hear You Paint Houses, but I don’t believe there were any. Also, the readers’ voice changes a few times within this audiobook, making for an inconsistent listen and some confusion.
