Story
It's as big as the Empire State Building, a massive floating fortress at the throbbing heart of a US Navy carrier battle group. Its supersonic aircraft can level entire cities at a stroke. Its surveillance gear can track every target within thousands of square miles - in the air, on the surface, and under the sea. Its crew of 6,000 works night and day to keep this awesome military machine at peak performance. It's a Nimitz-class nuclear carrier, the most powerful weapons system on the planet. Nothing can touch it.

Mostly just tedious
Reviewed: 06-01-22
Plot holes, technical inaccuracies, flawed reasoning by the characters, and dated material. Not to mention the tedium between very brief and infrequent action sequences made this a chore to listen to for me.

The storyline is predictable but entertaining.
The narration is frankly deplorable. While the narrator's normal voice is pleasant enough, his character voices are ridiculous and cartoony.

Story
Mexican drug cartels are shooting up the streets of Laredo and El Paso. Somali pirates are holding three U.S. tankers for ransom. The President of the United States is fed up and, as Commander in Chief, has what he thinks is a pretty bright idea — to get hold of Colonel Charley Castillo and his merry band and get them on the case. Unfortunately, that will be difficult. Everybody knows that the President hates Castillo’s guts, and has just had him forcibly retired from the military, and now Castillo’s men are scattered far and wide, many of them in hiding.

Awful! Just absolutely awful!

I am actually having trouble believing that the mind that created the Men at War, The Corps, and the Badge of Honor series had ANYTHING to do with this complete piece of [REDACTED].
I strongly suspect that I have a streak of masochism in me after I realized I had somehow made it through this "book".
Mr. Griffin.... What happened? Seriously!
Also, I love narrator Dick Hill in the Jack Reacher series but he should have walked away from this one. Not his best work by a long shot.

Story
Once the Church of God Awaiting dominated all the kingdoms of Safehold. Then, after centuries of stasis, the island kingdom of Charis began to defy the edicts of Mother Church—egged on, some say, by the mysterious warrior-monk Merlin Athrawes, who enjoys the Charisian royal family's absolute trust. What vanishingly few people know is that Merlin is the cybernetic avatar of a young woman a thousand years dead, felled in the war in which aliens destroyed Earth...and that since awakening, his task has been to restart the history of the long-hidden human race.

Unforgivably Poor Narrator Preparation!!!

After 3 chapters I am giving up. The narrator and the Audible editor have either never listened to the pronunciations from all the previous books in the series... Or were just pathetically lazy!
Almost every name and place is mispronounced. In an audio book series this is a mortal sin.
I will read the book instead.

Story
No one wanted another war. Thomas Theisman didn't. After risking his life and a fresh round of civil war to overthrow the Committee of Public Safety's reign of terror and restore the Republic of Haven's ancient Constitution, an interstellar war was the last thing he wanted. Baron High Ridge didn't. The Prime Minister of Manticore was perfectly happy with the war he had. No one was shooting anyone else at the moment, and as long as he could spin out negotiations on the formal treaty of peace, his government could continue to milk all those "hostilities only" tax measures for their own partisan projects.

Important for the Honorverse Story!

- Storm from the Shadows
- By: David Weber
- Narrated by: Jay Snyder
What happened to Weber's writing? Or his editor?
Reviewed: 03-20-10
First off, The narrator has the most ridiculous cast of female voices I have ever heard (Think Monty Python).
Secondly, Over the years I have really enjoyed the Honorverse series (with a couple of notable exceptions). However, this book reminded me of the incredibly boring War of Honor installment in this saga. Heavy on politics and political meetings, and very light on character development or even much action for that matter. Combine that with half the book being a re-hash of events previously presented in other books and you have a really long dull book.
The author needs an aggressive editor... Or he needs to be paid by the book and not by the word.
Did I mention the huge cliffhanger ending....
Avoid this. I don't think you are missing anything significant in the series.
