Story
When the world last checked in with its favorite Cheetos addict, the planet had been overrun by flesh-hungry beasts, and nature had started reclaiming her territory from humankind. S.T., the intrepid crow, alongside his bloodhound-bestie Dennis, had set about saving pets that had become trapped in their homes after humanity went the way of the dodo. That is, dear reader, until S.T. stumbled upon something so rare - and so precious - that he vowed to do everything in his power to safeguard what could, quite literally, be humanity's last hope for survival.

Good but not great
Reviewed: 12-08-24
Definitely not as good as the first but still entertaining. I found myself annoyed by ST and his obsessive relationship with Dee. The ending also seemed a bit rushed and left me with the, “that’s it?” All that said, it was a good listen and the reading is phenomenal.

Story
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

This was my second time through this amazing story, 30 years after reading for the first time as a teenager. It didn’t disappoint and Kate Reading’s performance is nearly flawless. It’s a commitment at 50 hours but oh…is it so worth it.

Story
Kate Bowler is a professor at Duke Divinity School with a modest Christian upbringing, but she specializes in the study of the prosperity gospel, a creed that sees fortune as a blessing from God and misfortune as a mark of God's disapproval. At 35, everything in her life seems to point toward "blessing". She is thriving in her job, married to her high school sweetheart, and loves life with her newborn son. Then she is diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer.

Nice enough story but….
Reviewed: 07-17-22
Great narration and admirable strength for feeling her story. Was hoping it would be more about the struggles with ‘why me’ from a theological and religious perspective. Instead it was just more of a play-by-play for her cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment. Certainly not to downplay her struggle or medical condition at all but sadly, nothing particularly unique in the story.

I cannot say enough about Hillary Clinton. She is an inspiration for not only all women but also every human being on this planet. I applaud her work and her dedication to public service. Profiling the women in this book only proves even more how much of a champion she is. It’s also so nice to see Chelsea following in the enormous footsteps of her mother. Mad respect!!

Probably better to read

I just did not care for this. I struggled to get through it and thought that I would give up several times but each time, I powered through. I think the biggest thing was that the story was so hard to follow listening. It jumps around and incredibly hard to follow. The authors narration, which I’m usually a big fan of, was also rather distracting. Her voice was so sweet but with the number of characters and jumping timeline, it really was hard to distinguish who was speaking or what was happening because it all seemed the same. Sadly, I was just left underwhelmed.

Story
For someone who made a career out of oversharing on the Internet, Tyler Oakley has a shocking number of personal mishaps and shenanigans to reveal in his first book: He experienced a legitimate rage blackout in a Cheesecake Factory; he had a fashion stand-off with the White House Secret Service; he crashed a car in front of his entire high school in an Arby's uniform; he projectile vomited while bartering with a grandmother.

Tyler, I love you but...
Reviewed: 07-20-19
First off, I think Tyler Oakley should be admired and respected for what he’s done in his career. 100% I was never a viewer of his YouTube and had only sort of heard of him until he and Cory were on The Amazing Race. I loved them and cheered them on both times they ran. But, while I love his wit and humor and sassiness and shade and overly gayness for the sake of showing off his proud overly gayness, outside of small doses is sooooooo obnoxious. I almost stopped listening a couple of hours in. The rambling annoying story that seems to have no point (especially the part with the shit at the beginning) makes you think, “What the hell am I listening to? And why??” Fortunately, I powered through and stuck with it. There’s some decent interpersonal detail that everyone, gay or otherwise, can relate to. There’s some nice little life nuggets mid way through and on that make listening to the blah blah blah near the beginning slightly worth it. I still love you, T. But, like shots of booze, I just need you in smaller doses.

Amazing story of an amazing woman
Reviewed: 06-28-19
As a proud democrat who respects the office of the presidency so much and those who hold it (outside of 45’s shameful term), I’ve always admired the Bush’s. Barbara was the backbone of that ‘dynasty’ and Ms. Page did a fantastic job of accounting for the amazing woman Barbara was. Ms Levy’s narration, however, was almost painful. The tone was very monotone and much to ‘historical’ - it needed more emphasis on emotion to really convey what was being told about Mrs. Bush. Her reading wasn’t bad, per se, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re tired and there’s a chance to fall asleep.
