Story
Imagine a town where the people perpetually live in the 1950s, a place where time has all but stopped and where everyone loves his family, job, and life. In this strange place, only a select few people ever leave the city limits and even then, they leave reluctantly. This is what 15-year-old Benjamin Granault faces as, through a string of amazing events, he finds himself living in a town where he can never talk about modern technology or current events, a place where being an outsider can cost a person his life and being part of the community may very well cost more.

In the not too distant past, along the Mississippi River, North America tried to tear itself in half. It failed. It won’t the second time. The New Madrid fault zone, six times larger than the San Andreas in California, has generated a series of massive earthquakes thrusting the Atwood and Chandler families in a fight to survive. Will they arrive for Christmas? Will they arrive at all? Their lives are about to change forever. Prepare to be shaken.

Longer and fuller character building

It was nice to see the characters change their expectations of “home” the closer they got to their physical families.

In the midst of a bitter family feud, the much divided Rolland family is thrown together when news of their father's untimely passing places them on a red-eye flight from Seattle to Washington D.C. Although, they are physically close in the tight space of the aircraft, Rege, Mark, and Kit are at their farthest distance apart emotionally. Until the unthinkable happens. Two hours into the flight, missiles streak across the star-filled sky, the detonation of a nuclear warhead causes the plane to make a forced landing.

One of the BEST books!!!
Reviewed: 10-10-17
I so throughly enjoyed this book, I intend on listening to it all over again... Alas Babylon was also a truly fantastic story. The combination of references from Alas, Babylon so carefully interwoven into this story made it one of the best books on “ after the bomb” that I have listened to yet. The characters were people that you really cared about, and story evolved into a believable story line. There were no magic unbelievable feats of rescue here. One of best stories about people and the suffering they endure after America is involved in a nuclear war. This is not a book in which everything is better after 6 months but it shows the internal struggle of a main character to accept a closure much different from the one she believed she had to have. Congratulations Ms. Druga this book was wonderful.

Story
Mark Russell & Shannon Wheeler's faithful yet irreverent approach to the Bible made their book God Is Disappointed in You a modern cult classic. Now, by popular demand, they turn their attention to the best parts left out of the canonical Bible, including the Midrash, the Apocrypha, Gnostic Gospels, and more! And if you thought the Bible had some weird stuff in it....

Even got the kids attention
Reviewed: 02-01-17
This book was wonderful. My children were in another room, but they laughed to themselves as I listened. The reader was phenomenal with his inflections and change of characters voices. By the 5th chapter everytime I turned it on my kids would show up to listen. A book such as this provides a modern day look at an old dusty subject. Most enjoyable!

Story
Four college students head to the Colorado mountains for two weeks of rest, relaxation and winter fun on the bunny slopes. What they get instead is the end of the world as they know it as the city of Denver is destroyed by a nuclear explosion shortly after their arrival. With no electricity, no cell phones or communication, they are isolated on the mountain top and have no way of knowing what is happening elsewhere in the country. Was it a nuclear accident or a deliberate attack.
