About this listen

Imagine a town where the people perpetually live in the 1950s, a place where time has all but stopped and where everyone loves his family, job, and life. In this strange place, only a select few people ever leave the city limits and even then, they leave reluctantly. This is what 15-year-old Benjamin Granault faces as, through a string of amazing events, he finds himself living in a town where he can never talk about modern technology or current events, a place where being an outsider can cost a person his life and being part of the community may very well cost more. Follow the adventures of Benjamin Granault in 50sVille, the strangest town Indiana has ever been unaware of.

50's living

What did you love best about '50sVille?

I thought the story line was very interesting

What other book might you compare '50sVille to and why?

the exact reversal of the Brendan Fraser movie "Blast from the past"

Any additional comments?

The ending was definitely a cliff hanger

Living in the past

I enjoyed this story. The whole town in another time is very interesting even with the dark undertone. I look forward to the next ones.

Great intro!

I've listen to all 5 books in the serie in sequence. They are not that long and the story is pretty much continuous so I recommend to read it/listen all 5 books too. You will not want to stop in the middle.
I will review all 5 books and give stars individual for each.
The story is about a boy that every year goes to an event in a town that is stuck in the 50's. In the first book we get to meet this town and some of it's inhabitants. But then his father dies and the plot begins. For his own protection he has to hide in the town and live there under their rules (book 2). Those first 2 books were my favorite. As well as the narrators. The story reminded me of "The Stepford Wives" but in different way. The group of kids also reminded me a lot of Steven Spielberg films.
After that the story turns into a darker tale, when we discover the mystery behind the town. I think of it like a Edgar Allan Poe tale. I love them, the dark, the mystery, the danger, the thrill, the supernatural flare. The thing is they always seem to never go too deep, being just a tale. In here we still get a lot of complexity, and cool characters, but for me it never really suppresses the expectations created on the first 2 books. Still worth reading to discover the full mystery and the final chapter.
It was a petty that there is a new narrator for every book. I would have preferred consistency, being a small length novela. All narrators are pretty good, but totally different from each other.

Who doesn’t love the 50s?

What a great idea for a story. Bengermen loves going to 50’s week. He doesn’t even mind playing along with the gang he hangs out with every year. That all changes when they drop their social graces and Ben finds out it’s always the 1950’s

This book was so cute. I love the Benjamin and Catherine entry and the rest of the gang. I have already downloaded book to do and can’t wait to start listening. Although I think this is for a younger audience I still love it.

Fantastic

This is a fun but creepy book.

I am very interested in listening further and finding out about this town.

The characters are well developed and mostly likable.

Dave Wright is an excellent narrator.

Living in the past?

wow, I loved this who wouldn't want to live in the 50's when things were simply "better." I'm positive this town has more going on then it seems, on the surface it seems perfect but nothing is perfect. I received this aduiobook and voluntarily choose to reveiw.

Something Different

This is a story about Ben, a young adult, and his adventures into '50s Ville with all it's strangeness. This book was mainly for world building. It gives us the lay of the land and what all Ben had experienced. It was interesting and intriguing to me. Where it's not over the top with dramatics or actions it does keep your interest in a subtle way. I enjoyed hearing about '50s Ville and all its weirdness. The narration is excellently done. Dave Wright gives each character their own voice and emotions. He really helps to bring the story to life and makes the listening even more enjoyable. A different story reminiscent of the radio stories of old.

'50'sVille

Ben loved every year when the town blocked off the main street and everything 1950's took over.Every year he would pick up with friends at the same place he left off the last year. When he questioned this,he was told to not question things.Under bad circumstances he gets to live his life in 50'sVille.It isn't all it seems to be. Dave Wright was a fine narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
