Story
The cabin had always been a special retreat for Isherwood Williams, a haven from the demands of society. But one day while hiking, Ish was bitten by a rattlesnake, and the solitude he had so desired took on dire new significance. Ish headed home when he finally felt himself again—and noticed the strangeness almost immediately. No cars passed him on the road; the gas station not far from his cabin looked abandoned; and he was shocked to see the body of a man on the roadside near a small town. Without a radio or phone, Ish had no idea of humanity’s abrupt demise.

A great end of a civilization story
Reviewed: 01-08-25
A great story - I watched the series on MGM but wanted to listen to this original novel the show was based on. It’s great, the book goes deeper into the issues that were only mentioned in passing in the show. I enjoyed listening to the narrator.

Disgusted and disturbed
Reviewed: 10-09-24
I am a Freida McFadden fan and I figured I will give John Marrs a try. I enjoyed The One but this book I might not be able to finish listening to! It’s horrible- a disturbing story of a mother/daughter relationship- makes you wanna not have any children! This story contains pedophilia, incest… I feel sorry for the narrator to have to read this trash. I don’t think I will be reading/listening to any more John Marrs! Lolita was a work of art compared to this piece of garbage. I also want to add that I hardly ever read a review and always positive ones so listener beware! You have been warned!

Beckett: If you’re reading this, well, you know the last-letter drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there was any chance you could have saved me, you would have. I need one thing from you: get out of the army and get to Telluride. My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart.

I do not want to spoil it for anyone but if you want a good love story- this is not it! Someone dies in the end and it’s not who you would expect! Disgusted with this author for doing this. I was hoping for a good uplifting story and was disappointed. The only redeeming quality were the narrators.

Story
Simon and Vicky couldn’t seem more normal: a wealthy Chicago couple, he a respected law professor, she an advocate for domestic violence victims. A stable, if unexciting marriage. But one thing’s for sure: absolutely nothing is what it seems. The pair are far from normal, and one of them just may be a killer. When the body of a beautiful socialite is found hanging in a mansion in a nearby suburb, Simon and Vicky’s secrets begin to unravel. A secret whirlwind affair. A twenty-million-dollar trust fund about to come due.

Story
Folksy and fresh, endearing and affecting, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is the now-classic novel of two women in the 1980s; of gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode telling her life story to Evelyn, who is in the sad slump of middle age. The tale she tells is also of two women - of the irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Rut - -who back in the thirties ran a little place in Whistle Stop, Alabama, a Southern kind of Cafe Wobegon offering good barbecue and good coffee and all kinds of love and laughter, even an occasional murder.

Story
In the slums of 18th-century France, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille is born with one sublime gift - an absolute sense of smell. As a boy, he lives to decipher the odors of Paris and apprentices himself to a prominent perfumer who teaches him the ancient art of mixing precious oils and herbs. But Grenouille's genius is such that he is not satisfied to stop there, and he becomes obsessed with capturing the smells of objects. Then one day, he catches a hint of a scent that will drive him on an ever-more-terrifying quest to create the "ultimate perfume" - the scent of a beautiful young virgin.

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

An interesting story
Reviewed: 06-21-22
I don’t know why there are so many bad reviews. It’s a good story, maybe a bit too long but describes what could possibly happen when a small town gets trapped under a dome and the interactions among the folk. Detailed descriptions and a great cast of characters make this vivid picture of a small town come to life. It’s not pretty but there is always hope.. maybe it’s because it’s different from what King writes but it is an interesting view of the world nevertheless.
