Long time Mark Greaney fan. This title is one of his best, in my opinion. Brilliantly original story, very entertaining and action-packed. I liked that the story was not so complex that you had to re-listen to parts of the audio, but I couldn’t unravel the story until the author revealed it. It was well paced, the action never died for too long and the characters were all very “memorable”. Adam Gold did a decent job with narration.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

I really loved this audiobook. This is one of the most original stories I've ever read/listened to. Original and creative. You can expect a high degree of scientific content from Mr. Weir and this story has a lot of technical content but is intelligently written and narrated. I can't wait for the movie. However, I'm not confident that a movie would be as good as the book. It was a pleasant 16 hours of listening. A great addition to the Andy Weir collection.

The Best of the year AND series!
Reviewed: 11-25-20
Simply said, this has been the best listen of the year. The story and action were seat of the chair amazing. My heart was escalated thru every chapter. Fans of spy thrillers will definitely enjoy this one. Ray is the best (with male characters). Most female characters voices are similar, but the writers do a nice job of minimizing female to female interactions. Liked the epilogue setup for a future book in the series. Great job guys and thanks for entertainment.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

A very creative and original story
Reviewed: 01-24-18
Artemis was an unconventional story. Although the general themes were familiar, Weir adds a touch of creativity that was very enjoyable - writing as a female. I enjoyed the unconventional "Jasmin" , whom was clearly written in male consciousness.
Overall, this was a really cool story. Weir creates an entertaining platform for sharing his vast knowledge of physics. The narration was good, but not great. Dawson did an admirable job applying vocal distinction to each of the characters, but I sometimes found it difficult to distinguish between the voices of the female characters.
I'm glad I choose to listen to this book despite all the marginal reviews. In comparison to Weir's, "The Martian", I found this book to deliver the same interesting physical space science but in a much more entertaining way than Weir's prior work.
I applaud the author and narrator for delivering solid entertainment value. Looking forward to Weir's next work set in Mars

I'm a pretty avid Spy thriller fan. Books by Vince Flynn, Ben Coes and Mark Greeney are my favorites. If you have similar tastes, you will LOVE War Shadows (and Book 1 - Tier One). Action and story are top-rate.
I generally like Ray Porter, however I didn't feel like this was his best work. Transitions between some of the characters was sometimes indistinguishable and I didn't particular like his females voices. But overall, the narration was OK.
I was engaged and delighted throughout the story. It was not as predictable as I thought it would be. The antagonists were really smart and unpredictable. Also, I enjoyed that this book was heavy on action and light on gov't bashing. I appreciate a hero who gets beat. You will love the ending!

I can simply say that this was the most powerful and emotionally compelling audiobook I have ever listened to. It IS graphic, it will illicit anger, fear, disgust, respect and many other emotions. The author delved deep into the human psyche to produce a story that was way too real. This book left me with the slightly uneasy feeling that this is a work of non-fiction. Writing and reading were an A+.

I can't say enough about this exciting story. First, George Guidal is the best when it comes to narration. I believe he could make a marginal story great just by his skills as a narrator. The story was intense, the pace was perfect and the (new) characters were introduced and developed just enough to identify them throughout the story with getting confused. I really enjoyed the consistency of the main characters. Flynn/Guidal makes them familiar without being predictable. The story truly justifies Mitch Rapp's passion and the conviction of the antagonists. I loved the story and would highly recommend it to Flynn fans old and new.

Story
For months, Mitch Rapp has been steadily working his way through a list of men, bullet by bullet. With each kill, the tangled network of monsters responsible for the slaughter of 270 civilians becomes increasingly clear. He is given his next target: a plump Libyan diplomat who is prone to drink and is currently in Paris without a single bodyguard. Rapp finds him completely unprotected and asleep in his bed. With confidence in his well-honed skills and conviction of the man’s guilt, he easily sends a bullet into the man’s skull. But in the split second it takes the bullet to leave the silenced pistol, everything changes.

The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer's career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track - until the recession hits and she gets downsized, furloughed, escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is one of the "lucky" associates. She's offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she'd get her old job back. In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about.

I learned quite a bit from this book which makes this treatise on the mining industry quite an interesting experience. As always, I expected a story from the perspective of the judicial profession, however I was mildly surprised by the female narration and alluring subject matter. Just the right mix of action, drama and real-life to make this a really entertaining listen.
The narration was excellent and believable. Ms. Taber accurately captures the personalities of the main female character and other male characters. Although the character of Amanda was a bit whinny and immature (as was probably the intent of Mr. Grisham) and tended to thoroughly irritate me at times, her well-conveyed personality did not distract at all from the story or the other characters.
I really liked this performance in its entirety. I would recommend this book to those avid audible listeners who, like me, crave depth as well as entertainment. If you enjoy the "lack" of predictability from a book that leads with a great story and is accompanied by just the right mix of humor, action, sex (not too explicit), suspense and intrigue, then you will not be disappointed spending a credit on "Gray Mountain".

Story
Thomas Kilbride is a map-obsessed schizophrenic so affected that he rarely leaves the self-imposed bastion of his bedroom. But with a computer program called Whirl360.com, he travels the world while never so much as stepping out the door. He pores over and memorizes the streets of the world. He examines every address, as well as the people who are frozen in time on his computer screen. Then he sees something that anyone else might have stumbled upon - but has not - in a street view of downtown New York City: an image in a window. An image that looks like a woman being murdered.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. The story was interesting and it was easy to follow. The handful of characters were skillfully developed and well-sync'd with the story-line. Although the plot was not an overly complex, it was original enough to keep me guessing. The narration was good, but not excellent. I did appreciate the "teaming" between the two narrators which added to character consistency and provided some variety. I would definitely recommend this audio book.
