Victorian Edinburgh. Captain Edward Henry Hyde is chief detective for the City of Edinburgh Police; as such, he is responsible for investigating all murders and serious crimes in the city. Title should be “Truckers and Traffickers”
Reviewed: 06-01-24
The book is excellent. I now and am completely educated on the trucking industry and the sex trafficking industry. I’m glad to have this knowledge. Not much on serial killers which is what drew me in in the first place. But, oh well, I truly appreciate and have gained respect for truckers (not the ones who kill). My heart breaks for the poor women and girls who are forced or drawn into the disgusting world of sex work. Thank God for the good people who are there to help them. We need more!

Good Book/Bad Narration
Reviewed: 02-24-24
It was a struggle to get through this book because the narrator is not suited to the storyline. Every character sounded the same. Otherwise the story was interesting.

Story
Killing the Witches revisits one of the most frightening and inexplicable episodes in American history: the events of 1692 and 1693 in Salem Village, Massachusetts. What began as a mysterious affliction of two young girls who suffered violent fits and exhibited strange behavior soon spread to other young women. Rumors of demonic possession and witchcraft consumed Salem. Soon three women were arrested under suspicion of being witches—but as the hysteria spread, more than 200 people were accused. Thirty were found guilty, twenty were executed, and others died in jail or their lives were ruined.

Fascinating Book
Reviewed: 10-01-23
Not only does Killing the Witches delve into the witch trials, it provides a background beginning with the Mayflower leading all the way to modern times. I didn’t realize how much our history can be traced back to that one terrible moment in time. The authors do a wonderful job of tying it all together. I enjoyed every minute of the book!

Story
It’s the house of their dreams. Former marine Harry and his wife, Sasha, have packed up their life and their golden retriever, Dash, and fled the corporate rat race to live off the land in rural Idaho. Their breathtaking new home sits on more than forty acres of meadow, aspen trees, and pine forest in the Teton Valley. Even if their friends and family think it’s a strange choice for an up-and-coming pair of urban professionals, Harry and Sasha couldn’t be happier about the future they’re building, all by their lonesome.

Merges both my favorite genres! British mystery and paranormal. I find it clever and interesting. I knew the narrator’s intake of breaths would be mentioned in the comments, and I was not disappointed-it doesn’t bother me. Entertaining and worth a credit.

Too Wordy
Reviewed: 02-27-22
The basic story is good, but the main character is too self-absorbed. There were times when I thought I couldn’t take it anymore, but I don’t like to let a book go unfinished, so I stuck it out. The narrator was perfect for this character, but I just couldn’t connect with her. It was a difficult listen.
