A wonderful read by Bill Homewood
Reviewed: 01-07-14
What did you love best about The Count of Monte Cristo?
Monte Cristo is one of my all time favourite books and is an annual read for me. The tragedy, revenge and love of the tale all bound in that wonderful language from yesteryear.
What did you like best about this story?
The lengths Dantes goes to to bring justice/revenge to his enemies is exquisite.
What does Bill Homewood bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Mr Homewood's wonderful voice and excellent pronunciation of all of the French names, terms and words lend wonderful vibrance to this epic tale, especially when there are other audiobooks out there that don't even make the attempt. The words spill from his lips as if he spoke the language himself and absolutely set the mood that this is a story that takes place in France.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
This book is far too large to put into a single 2 hour movie, though Hollywood has tried several times. Instead, search out the wonderful Tele-Movies with Gerard Depardieu from 1998 "Le comte de Monte Cristo".
Any additional comments?
Adventure, Love, Betrayal, Lies, Truths and Drama in their most Epic! The tale of Edmond Dantes is a true classic masterpiece and this audiobook should be required reading/listening for any fan of the genre or indeed, anyone wanting an epic story with an amazing narrator.
Bravo Mssr Homewood. Bravo!

Han Solo should be basking in his moment of glory. After all, the cocky smuggler and captain of the Millennium Falcon just played a key role in the daring raid that destroyed the Death Star and landed the first serious blow to the Empire in its war against the Rebel Alliance. But after losing the reward his heroics earned him, Han's got nothing to celebrate. Especially since he's deep in debt to the ruthless crime lord Jabba the Hutt. There's a bounty on Han's head - and if he can't cough up the credits, he'll surely pay with his hide. The only thing that can save him is a king's ransom. Or maybe a gangster's fortune?

Would you consider the audio edition of Scoundrels: Star Wars to be better than the print version?
The production values on these Star Wars audiobooks greatly enhance the books and these are in many ways radio dramas rather than audiobooks. The music, the sound effects, everything comes together in a fantastic audio presentation.
What other book might you compare Scoundrels: Star Wars to and why?
As far as production is concerned, any other Star Wars audiobook, as for content, Oceans 11.
Which character – as performed by Marc Thompson – was your favorite?
I gotta pick one? Marc is so incredibly good and gives nuanced performances for each character. I gotta say though, the first time I heard Lando speak all I could hear was, "It's just me, Billy Dee." So cool
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Award-winning author, narrator, and screenwriter Neil Gaiman personally selected this book, and, using the tools of the Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX), cast the narrators and produced this work for his audiobook label, Neil Gaiman Presents. In this exciting new "illuminated production", the author herself reads her own work, supported by a full cast.

A charming story you become entwined with.

If you could sum up The Privilege of the Sword in three words, what would they be?
Swashbuckling Romantic Intrigue.
Who was your favorite character and why?
You do fall in love with Lady Katerine as she struggles (initially) with her position and them looses herself in her new found freedoms.
Any additional comments?
As others have said, do NOT buy this based on the famous people doing some voice work, good though it may be that ONLY accounts for about 5-10% of the overall production. The rest of the work is EXTREMELY well done. Just don't buy this thinking you're going to be hearing a lot of Felicia Day and you're golden.

In John Scalzi's re-imagining of H. Hundreds of miles from ZaraCorps headquarters on planet, 178 light-years from the corporations headquarters on Earth, Jack is content as an independent contractor, prospecting and surveying at his own pace. As for his past, thats not up for discussion.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There was one part but it's been a while since I listened to it.

Both books are fantastic sci-fi, but in this instance, I think Scalzi's reworking makes it better than the original.

In John Scalzi's best-selling Old Man's War series of science-fiction novels, we see this warrior woman as the other characters see her - silent and strong, from the outside. But now The Sagan Diary shows us Sagan from another point of view: her own, as she prepares to leave military life and join her new husband and adopted daughter on a colony world.
