Story
They lived with professors and waited on former presidents. They were masons and nurses, school teachers and field hands, 246 people owned by a man who struggled with the institution of slavery. Yet, almost no one knows their names. When a white woman begins to study the history of the plantations these people built, the plantations where she was raised, she discovers that the silence around these people's lives speaks of a silence in her country's history . . . and in her own life. Read this tale of American slavery and it's legacy here in the United States.

I wish the book was read in a woman’s voice. This would reflect the author as being a woman. Being a family genealogist, I found this book very inspiring. It also gave me new ideas of where and how to search for records.

Engaging story.

I love the way the characters were weaved together. In the beginning I was confused. When I finally figured out the connections, it was on. It was a very engaging story. It kept me guessing what was next.
After a while the graphic sex was too much. I skipped thru those parts. Also the AI almost ruined it for me. I was literally half way through the book before I understood « I MMA » was I’mma. Never figured out « on god ». Maybe next time you can find an AI that speaks Ebonics.
