Robert Rath does an amazing job building a Cadian culture that isn't stymied by over 30 years of lore, but empowered by it. We have factions at play here that have been at each other's necks for all the lore but Robert Rather embues the characters in this story with such strong characterization that I was rooting for everyone. Oh this is a Kell section? How is he going to support Creed through this hour's disaster. oh this is a section about the 'fortress child'? how is she going to win the love of her father here. l very well done.

The words of this book are made all the more enticing with the wonderful Narration of David Seddon. I was a bit worried that this wasn't narrated by Johnathan Keeble (a personal favorite of mine), but Seddon blows the Narration out of the park. Every character has a different voice that is informed by the story itself. I can't give a strong enough recommendation for this book.

This book was not what I was expecting, in the best way possible. I thought this book was going to be simply about how the 'Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus' turn into the 'Black Legion'. simple nice, neat and tie a little bow on it. This novel is a wonderful exploration into what defines warriors after they fail and it is beautiful in every sense of the word. Now don't, get me wrong, the traitor legionaries are transhuman monsters who will maim, kill and murder at the behest of vile choas gods or their own volition. However. ADB crafts characters that, despite the things they have done you want to keep turning the page to find out what happens next. amazing grade A writing of Villians here.

The Narration by Johnathan Keeble is nothing short of amazing. He makes every character sound different and then crafts subtly onto what he is reading. his choices in intonation and expression are pitch perfect, no notes.

I recommend thus book whole heartedly and eagerly move onto to the next novel in the series.

I've read this book and the short story featuring Grimaldus (not included in this audiobook) before, but I have been giving audible a shot and wanted to see how this reading would be. I was not disappointed.

Firstly, I gotta give credit to Arron Demski-Bowden, because he writes amazing stories. The bit that makes his writing so effective is his perfect word choice in every situation and the narrative he tells feels like it's a piece from a real world. Each and every character has a past before they existed in the book. The bit of a character we see in his stories is just a few days of a lived existence. It makes his stories different than most fiction, in that way.

Secondly, I gotta give credit to the Narrator- Jonathan Keeble. His performance, while narratoring was top notch here. He does subtle things with his voice to differentiate between all the characteristics. For example, he gives Helbrecht (High Marshal of the Templars) this nasally voice that makes this beast of a man almost comical, but deadly serious at the same time. Primus, the best swordsman in Grimaldus's squad, is imbued with this arrogance and swagger that only youth and inexperience combined with skill can have and it is perfect.

I could go on at length about how this is an amazing story and we'll done, but just buy the thing, you won't be disappointed.

A Blood Angel vs Ork story that includes Belial and Gaz

This is a 1 and done story about a company of space marines versus an unexpected ork invasion.

Belial, Commander of 3rd company of the Dark Angels, is in his early days as a company captain here. He's new in his role and unsure of the decisions he makes. Over the course of the novel you see him grow as a leader.

This is a 'bolter porn' novel with great character development throughout. The perspective given in each chapter range from a scout marine all the way to company Commander and everything in between. I liked that.

I thought the audio performance here was 'ok'. all the imperial characters sound similar except for sometimes being deep and sometimes not. I loved the narrator's ork performances. They are funny and add flavor that is otherwise lacking in the performance. solid 3 for ne.

Definitely recommend if you're a Dark Angel fan and looking for a peak into their chapter.

This Novella is a framework story built around the making of a BLOOD Claw. The first blood claws of the Chapter rather than the Legion. An already interesting time frame to set a story in the Warhammer 40k lore. The story within that is told about the Space Wolves during the great crusade.

The Story set within the great crusade really establishes the culture of the legion during the time of Leman Russ. Still amongst the great companies are members from Leman Russ's war host during his time as a mortal man, before the coming of the Imperium to Fenris. The relationship between Russ and those members are different than the relationship of him and the space wolves turned as children. it's great to hear all those interactions.

I loved the Narration! Had I read this novel, I would have struggled with the name's, but just the pronunciation of the Norse words was great. Also, the voices for the various characters in the story are instantly recognizable and distinct.

This is my second audible book and I'm starting to fancy them.
