Historia
For most of its history, the US avoided making political and military commitments that would entangle it in European-style power politics. Then, suddenly, it conceived a new role for itself as the world’s armed superpower and never looked back. In Tomorrow, the World, Wertheim traces America’s transformation to the crucible of World War II, especially in the months prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. As the Nazis conquered France, the architects of the nation’s new foreign policy came to believe that the US ought to achieve primacy in international affairs forevermore.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

really enjoyed the performance
Revisado: 12-06-21
I have read the book and watched the movie a few times and I love both the book and the adaptation. This recitation of the book by Wil Wheaton is excellent and I really enjoyed it. I gleaned through some of the negative reviews and it seems like there was another adaption prior to Wheaton. I haven't listened to the first recording with a different actor but I really enjoyed Wil Wheaton's performance.

Historia
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

this book has an interesting point about spacing your learning with some techniques on how to implement it. However, it could as easily have been a 20 minute TED talk and not an 8 hour audiobook

Historia
It is astonishing that Simón Bolívar, the great Liberator of South America, is not better known in the United States. He freed six countries from Spanish rule, traveled more than 75,000 miles on horseback to do so, and became the greatest figure in Latin American history. His life is epic, heroic, straight out of Hollywood: he fought battle after battle in punishing terrain, forged uncertain coalitions of competing forces and races, lost his beautiful wife soon after they married and died relatively young, uncertain whether his achievements would endure.

great breakdown of building habits
Revisado: 08-24-21
I really loved this book. What it does so effectively is that while it lays out the certain rules of making and keeping habits or breaking bad habits, it gives you concrete examples of doing just that. Coming away from this book, I have, in my mind, certain things I am going to implement to make my daily habits better.

Capitalism as a system has spawned deepening economic crisis alongside its bought-and-paid-for political establishment. Neither serves the needs of our society. Whether it is secure, well-paid, and meaningful jobs or a sustainable relationship with the natural environment that we depend on, our society is not delivering the results people need and deserve.

excellent intro to worker run enterprises
Revisado: 08-13-21
I am exploring the question of Worker run enterprises and this book is such a great intro point. i had some vague ideas about what to explore but this book helped clarify some basic questions in my mind and gave me a direction on where to go.
The voice over work is also really good and kept me engaged throughout the recitation.

Historia
Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself. Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.

Should have been a Ted Talk.
Revisado: 07-23-21
Let me save you time! This "book" should have been no longer than a Ted Talk. The basic idea here is that people don't do things because there is this extra-dimensional resistance. This resistance stops them from doing things that they should. Resistance stops you from doing things that will benefit you. Thus, if you watch TV knowing that you should be reading that book you need to read, you should realize that it is resistance doing it. Now, knowing that it is resistance you must do that thing.
This should have at most been a 10-page essay, at best. However, the writer goes on and on about this idea with examples that, at some point, have little or no pertinence to the issue at hand.
He also starts throwing out pronouncements about ridiculous ideas such as "Depression and anxiety are not real or are just manifestations of the Resistance
or
"terminal cancer is so because someone experienced resistance and wasn't able to write the book they wanted to"
There is a good central idea but the writer starts putting so much nonsense around it that you just want the book to just end.
This was recommended by Ali Abdal and honestly, this makes me question everything that guy preaches.

A brilliant, shattering, and convincing account of United States-backed suppression of political and human rights in the Third World... It relentlessly dissects the official views of Establishment scholars and their journals. The "best and brightest" pundits of the status quo emerge from this audiobook thoroughly denuded of their credibility.
