Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

A good story, but
Reviewed: 01-19-25
Besides the constant use of the "F" word, towards the end of the 1st book (about 4 hours left) it continued to focus on a woman's (main character) lust for a man, morphing into a sex novel, which in my opinion doesn't add anything to the story, but distracts. Very sad!

My opinion, weak story
Reviewed: 01-12-25
This series, each book is about 9 hours, unfortunately the author is starting to add more filler like introspection, rehash previous books, commentary, all not adding to the excitement of the main story, like a sitcom! Bummer!

Confusing
Reviewed: 12-23-24
In my opinion, this was 3/4 boring, 1/4 interesting, but all seemed to be a meandering storyline!
The reader had very little variation in voice among the different characters which made it difficult to understand who was talking.

Story
Those on the side of progressing humanity through advanced technology have finally triumphed over their oppressors. The unholy war between the small but mighty island realm of Charis and the radical, luddite Church of God's Awaiting has come to an end. However, even though a provisional veil of peace has fallen over human colonies, the quiet will not last. For Safehold is a broken world, and as international alliances shift and Charis charges on with its precarious mission of global industrialization, the shifting plates of the new world order are bound to clash.

Lack of direction and progress
Reviewed: 07-11-24
I was saddened by Weber's decision both in the selection of the reader, and the loss of my expectation of this book moving on towards preparation to engage the Gababa.
This book didn't go anywhere new, just back into the political intrigue and infighting. I am so disappointed after waiting so long for this book.

Crossover is the first novel in a series which follows the adventures of Cassandra Kresnov, an artificial person, or android, created by the League, one side of an interstellar war against the more powerful, conservative Federation. Cassandra is an experimental design - more intelligent, more creative, and far more dangerous than any that have preceded her. But with her intellect come questions, and a moral awakening. She deserts the League and heads incognito into the space of her former enemy, the Federation, in search of a new life.

gratuitous sex
Reviewed: 05-28-24
I bought this based on the summary and the series sale. I would not do it again, and most likely not read the other 4 books I have.
Beside the brain numbing rhetorical introspection, are the severe, nymphomaniac exhibition that the lead character constantly displays. She would bed anyone and more if around to satisfy her urges. I just got tired of listening.

Enjoyment, frustration
Reviewed: 05-15-24
I was disappointed that it didn't match the same level of organized excitement of the previous three (series) books, with the additional loss of the female reader causing a disassociation with the previous three books. Also frustrating is the author's development of the lead character to be super powerful, but then have her fail to successfully defend herself on many occasions. But the first three books, sold cheap as a series, trapped me in the story. I hope the next book is better!

Spensa made it out of the Nowhere, but what she saw in the space between the stars has changed her forever. She came face to face with the Delvers, and finally got answers to the questions she’s had about her own strange Cytonic gifts. The Superiority didn’t stop fighting for galactic dominance while she was gone, though. Spensa’s team, Skyward Flight, was able to hold Winzik off, and even collect allies to help with the cause, but it’s only a matter of time until humanity—and the rest of the galaxy—falls.

What’s more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small planet home.
