Story
Blended whiskey, blended family. Thomas Bennet is a successful second son, a man who went into trade when his older brother, Harold, inherited Longbourn. When Harold passes, Thomas and his two children (James and Elizabeth) return to Longbourn to live with Harold’s widow (Fanny) and four daughters (Jane, Mary, Catherine and Lydia). A full length novel that is a clean, low angst reimagining of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Just desserts, finally!

If you are frustrated by those in the original story, who get away with rotten behavior, wishing they would get theirs, you will love this book. Incredibly cathartic for me. While the A.I. reading could be better, not enough feeling, the story is worth it. Great, no, excellent variation! Thanks to the author for delivering a variation I didn’t know I needed!

Least fav of the first three
Reviewed: 12-09-17
I loved the first two books in this series and couldn’t wait to read the third, but it was a little disappointing. The last few chapters are somewhat torturous and less than satisfying, in my opinion. Still, it provides closure for the trilogy.

Story
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it.

I loved this book! I laughed, learned and commiserated throughout. Al Franken shares the experience of being a senator in a way that anyone can understand. The importance of playing well with others and doing your research is well illustrated. He is a credit to the USA. My only regret, after reading this book, is that he is not a senator for Michigan. The man cares about his constituency and this country, giving up a successful career in Hollywood for the mean streets of D.C., in order to make a difference. Thank you Mr. Franken, you are a shining example of what we should all strive to be as good citizens: informed, open minded, sincere, full of integrity and hope, all while keeping a sense of humor (when appropriate, of course). This book also gave me comfort and hope when I desperately needed it. Thank you for that as well.
