Brandon Sanderson is by far one of my favorite authors. I love the epics, the magic systems and the entirety of his cosmere. I particularly appreciated the added insights this book brings to the continuity of the universe he’s building.

Sometimes he gets a little heavy on the dialogue, but that’s how he carries his stories. Instead of being this omnipotent observer your view is always obscured through the lens of the character your following. You never get to see the whole picture, but enough pieces from different viewpoints to put together your own view of his worlds.

I particularly loved the mist born section, being able to revisit my first loved characters. If I have one complaint is that the stories always end. Never finished, but the telling is over until the next story.

I’m going back and relistening to some of his other novels to find the connections to the cosmere. Hopefully I can find the continuous character that exists in all his books within the cosmere.

Happy listening

I'd you're a high fantasy fan, or a player of d&d you'll enjoy this series. Drizzt is an outcast of his people and you learn his inner struggle. Follow the intrigues that take place in the city of the drow while learning more about one of d&ds most beloved characters.

What made the experience of listening to On a Pale Horse the most enjoyable?

Piers Anthony stepped out from his normal writing when he wrote this book. It's subject matter is not something seen in most books, and Anthony did an excellent job in making the journey enjoyable. You find yourself sympathizing with the main character, and all the while hoping for the best resolution to a problem. The world the Piers Anthony created was an interesting mix between modern technology (for the time of the book), and a more magical element in the world. I found this the most entertaining part of the book, and really was left wishing for a little more depth into the world he created.

What other book might you compare On a Pale Horse to and why?

Reminds me of some of Orson Scott Card's work. However; I haven't listened to anything that would directly compare. That's just me though, and it's been a while since I listened so my memory is a little fuzzy.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

Definitely Death. George Guidall did a great job, but was sometimes a little flat in the performance. This was the only thing that really brought the book down.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I don't usually do books in one sitting as it tends to eat up credits too fast. I did get through this one rather quickly though, and it helped to finish it up fast because the pacing of the story is pretty quick.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I'm not one to listen to female voice actors. Primarily because when they do male voices it sounds somewhat strange. Overall the performance of this book was well done, and the story was engaging enough to keep the play button going. The story of this book was very interesting, and the backdrop for the story is very unique.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shade?

One bad thing leads to the next. This story continued to develop very well, but I found that the opener for the story was the best part of the book. The setup for everything that happens was intriguing to say the last.

Could you see Shade being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Copy cast of Twilight. You'd have another craze on your hands in an instant.
