Beautifully written story
Reviewed: 10-28-23
First off Mr. Lane's reading was so pleasing that he gained a spot on my very short list of searchable performers.
The story itself pulled me in pretty quickly and then I was swept away. The witty dialogue was entertaining without being over done. The presentation of humanity in all of its variations from the most evil to its most innocent and divine filled the story with emotion across the spectrum. Of course what is a Koontz novel without a sprinkling of the supernatural. This time though the magic is not so out of the realm of possibility.
I think this one already is a favorite.

Made me laugh, made me want to cry, kept me listening. I don't find King's books scary, so that's not why enjoy them. I love the way he tells a story. Any story. This one is no exception. And the narration is amazing. Ron McLarty has joined "my favorite narrator's club". I will looking for other performances by him..

In the stirring, highly anticipated first volume of his presidential memoirs, Barack Obama tells the story of his improbable odyssey from young man searching for his identity to leader of the free world, describing in strikingly personal detail both his political education and the landmark moments of the first term of his historic presidency - a time of dramatic transformation and turmoil.

I remember during the primaries thinking her was more style than substance because of his lack of time in government. He proved that wrong. I say this because of what I saw and experienced, not because of this book. which is always going to be a one sided view of history. But I have come to trust what he says for the most part. Not because of seeing the last 4 years unfold, but rather because what I recall is inline with his narrative. The book is an interesting look behind the scenes. It flows well, both as a read and a listen. I don't always enjoy listening to an author read their own book. This one is a no -brainer though. Nobody else could read this with the same effect. I look forward to the 2nd one.

Wizard and Glass is my favorite of the DT series. So I was looking forward to revisiting in-world. I know this book predates most of the DT books, and I know it's somewhat of a children's book. But everything is predictable, the plot, the characters. The story feels very much stretched. I kept listening hoping it would somehow get good, it never happened.
Then there is the narration. IDK if it was Pinchot just mailing it in or a week director. But it sure sounded like there wasn't much effort put forth. This book is forever in my library, but I'll never give it a second listen.

Story
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Excellent writing, average narration

King always has great character development as he does here. The storytelling is top notch as usual. Not the best narration but good enough to keep me in the story. I do prefer a little more voice acting from a reader than I got with this one. Oddly enough what pulled me out of the story more than anything was once again Mr. Kings promotion of Apple products. I get he is a fan. But I find the existence of TK and TP as well as the exploitation of the people having said abilities less unrealistic than his representation of Apple's market share. 🤔

I normally listen to books while working. But I find that difficult with a Tana French. I often find myself motionless, engrossed in the story. The Searcher was no different. The narration was obviously in contrast with the rest of her books, because it's an American's. That isn't any slight to the narrator, I think he did well,. It's just not the same. The plot may not have been as strong as her others, but Ms. French is such an amazing storyteller, it didn't matter. Upon finishing the book, I had my normal reaction to this author. More please.

Story
The story of Island in the Sky centers around a young man, who, after brilliantly winning a space-related competition, requests a vacation on a space station as his prize. It is written with Arthur C. Clark's obvious knowledge of science, but moves at a page turning rate throughout the entire narrative. The short novel gives a realistic possibility of work and play in future space, heightened with constant excitement and action.

Story
The fourth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Enter a new frontier. "An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave".

This is a long book series, which I didn't start listening to until just a few years ago. I love the story, and Jefferson Mays does a phenomenal job of reading. So much so, that I can't watch the TV series because the voices are just plain wrong. So when I went back to re-listen to the previous books while waiting for Tiamat's Wrath, I was overjoyed to find this book had been redone. Mr. Davies' reading was just so foreign. Nothing against Erik Davies, but I did not enjoy Cibola Burn the first time around. It was a struggle to get through even after I sped it up. I thoroughly savored the experience this time. Thank you so much Hachette. Thank you Mr. Mays!
