Story
Comedian Sofie Hagen shares how she removed fatphobic influences from her daily life and found self-acceptance in a world where judgment and discrimination are rife. From shame and sex to airplane seats, love and getting stuck in public toilets, Sofie provides practical tips for listeners, drawing wisdom from other Fat Liberation champions along the way. Part memoir, part social commentary, Happy Fat is a funny, angry and impassioned look at how taking up space in a culture that is desperate to reduce you can be radical, emboldening and life-changing.

The laughs weren't super frequent, but when I laughed I laughed pretty hard. And I felt a lot happier after reading it, which is a pretty good outcome for reading a book.

Story
Teacher Misery perfectly encapsulates the comical misery that has become the teaching profession. Jane Morris's strange, funny, and sometimes unbelievable teaching experiences are told through a collection of short stories, essays, and artifacts including real emails from parents, students, and administrators. From the parents who blame their son's act of arson on the teacher for causing him low self-esteem to the student who offers to teach the teacher how to sell drugs so she can pay her bills, one story is more shocking than the next.

A lot of boring unedited emails in their entirety
Reviewed: 02-16-20
I appreciate that this book exists, but there were a lot of pretty uninteresting documents apparently with no editing or commentary, for instance, a psychologist's recommendations for very normal accommodations for Asperger's syndrome.

I came looking for factual information about how Wicca is practiced, and this is exactly what this book is. It's a solid overview that takes many perspectives into account and encourages the reader to read further and explore their personal experience of religion.

There may be something there, but I'm about an hour in and the author has yet to get to a useful point. I also found the style condescending and annoying and decided not to subject myself to it any more. Disappointing.

Good, but it seems like there isn't a lot of data

Many of the conclusions were, "there's not enough data to know, so do whatever you want," which was a little disappointing!

It was ok, but I found the author kind of unlikeable. It wasn't much that I hadn't heard elsewhere, there was some humble bragging, and she had some repetitive habits (like saying "I digress" a lot).

I was hoping for practical parenting tips, but this book was heavily Bible focused. I also found that I disagreed with the foundations of the ideas in the book (e.g. "abortion is people applying a double standard to murder"), so I was hesitant about using information in it anyway.
