Hattie was a bit annoying but I get why the author wrote her that way

Readers expressed a lot of annoyance over Hattie, which I get. But I also understand why the author wrote the ending the way she did. I can’t imagine marrying someone ten years older than me and never having had the opportunity to actually do something on my own. I would feel like a child. It was still difficult during that part because I just wanted to scream at her to comfort Lucien, who has been through so much. Overall, I’d recommend it. I’m really looking forward to the next one.

This series has been hit or miss. The stories themselves are intriguing. The mystery behind that one night in university keeps me coming back to figure out what happened. Also, I’ve enjoyed some of the high angst/action scenes throughout.

My main issue with the book is that all the characters seem somewhat juvenile. Even though I know they’re supposed to be much older, they almost reminds me a group of middle schoolers. There is also something dissatisfying about almost every relationship in the series being insta-lust. Consequently, there doesn’t seem to be enough attention paid to developing the romance beyond just the physical aspects.

I couldn’t stop listening! I loved the angst and character development. This author is great at getting you invested in all the supporting characters. By the first two chapters, you are so invested in the characters, you feel like you know them.

Went a little slow in places but I came to realize that you really needed all those reflective moments to make the characters believable. The authors writing is simply incredible.

I don’t agree with reviewers who’s are disparaging or disrespectful of the narrator. She has a lovely voice but it doesn’t suit this novel. Going into it, I was hopeful since there are other narrators that took some getting used to. However, this was one of the first novels I had to stop listening to.

Elizabeth Hoyt just keeps hitting the mark time and time again. Just the right amount of angst and thrill. She really knows how to get you invested in a character. I am so excited to start the next one!

This book is EVERYTHING! After hitting a slow patch in terms of finding a novel I really clicked with, I stumbled upon the Maiden Lane series. The first one took me by surprise and then I’ve been steadily impressed with each and every one. So often, I find myself wishing the authors went down a different path…even for those novels I love. Not for this one! I was SO HAPPY with every decision the author took. Each event was so purposeful in intentionally moving the characters further along their arc. And her writing!! I’m not one to get chills, but…my goodness….can Elizabeth Hoyt’s words raise the goose flesh. I am so grateful for this series. My only disappointment is that it will one day end and I won’t have anymore to read.

Also, I used to have trouble with this narrator. Her hero’s always sounded monotone and angry. I must have just needed to get used to her because I had no qualms with this performance.

The 3/4 was very entertaining and witty. Then it started to get a little tad convoluted with his first wife’s backstory. A Wicked Kind of Husband exceeded all my expectations so my expectations going into this one were probably too high. Still, I really liked the two main characters and thoroughly enjoyed every scene with just the two of them.

This was a gamble purchase as I have not read Mia Vincy before. I am also very particular about narrators as they can make or break a novel. I am always a bit hesitant to gamble on anything non Rosalyn Landor or Mary Jane Wells. Both author and narrator were fabulous for this book! I almost wish I read the book so that I could go through and highlight some of the quotes that hit hard and true. Mia Vincy is fabulous at writing about emotions.I can’t wait to listen to the rest in the series and eventually read about Lucy’s story.
