Not my fav but still Jason & the gang
Reviewed: 08-28-24
This one does a lot of wandering and is covering so many different character storylines that none are particularly thorough. Lots of descriptive sections, not enough character scenes. But it’s still a HWFWM story, so I enjoyed it. And it did come good in the last third.

Usual quality storyline but very difficult subject matter

A huge trigger warning should be required on this one re child sexual abuse and exploitation. I’ve listened to most of the In Death series over the years, and while many have had quite nasty subject matter, this one stepped it up with its graphic depiction of an extensive child sexual abuse and sex trafficking ring. The ‘bad guys’ got it in the end as they tend to in this series, but it was particularly challenging getting to that part of this story.

Excellent story; accent of narrator pretty poor

Am happy to have found another English Lady detective series. It is very well written and the characters are likeable and believable, and the plot interesting and well wrapped up. I love an author who knows how to finish their story well without rushing the end or leaving lose ends. The narration had a nice voice to listen to, but the English accent was really poor in places, however I got used to it quickly and it didn’t detract from the story.

Every non-Indigenous Australian should read this
Reviewed: 03-23-21
Speaking as a white Australian woman, I am grateful for the opportunity to read this collection of stories from a wide range of Aboriginal voices.
I believe it is the responsibility of every non-Indigenous Australian to take the time to educate themselves on the true history of this country and the ongoing traumas experienced by Indigenous Australians.
If you take the opportunity to read these accounts, and to learn from them, it will open your eyes to the living realities of what it is to be Aboriginal in Australia. It may even go some of the way towards healing the damage that has been done.

Story
These are the ways in which ordinary white people react when it is pointed out to them that they have done or said something that has - unintentionally - caused racial offence or hurt. After, all, a racist is the worst thing a person can be, right? But these reactions only serve to silence people of colour, who cannot give honest feedback to 'liberal' white people lest they provoke a dangerous emotional reaction. Robin DiAngelo coined the term 'White Fragility' in 2011 to describe this process and is here to show us how it serves to uphold the system of white supremacy.

Any white person wishing to move towards being an anti-racist in action, should add this to their list of must reads. I acknowledge that this title is written by and profiting a white woman, it is also essential that you add a range of books by authors from black, indigenous and other people of colour on this topic. In combination with these other authors, I have found this book to be extremely beneficial in my work to become anti-racist.
