Story
Bob Odenkirk’s career is inexplicable. And yet he will try like hell to explicate it for you. Charting a “Homeric” decades-long “odyssey” from his origins in the seedy comedy clubs of Chicago to a dramatic career full of award nominations - with a side trip into the action-man world that is baffling to all who know him - it’s almost like there are many Bob Odenkirks! But there is just one and one is plenty. Featuring humorous tangents, wild characters, and Bob’s trademark unflinching drive, Comedy Comedy Comedy Drama is a classic tale told by a determined idiot.

Comedy Comedy Comedy Drama is a great look into the mind (and story) of Bob Odenkirk. I really loved hearing about his incredible life and career. I love that he reads it in his own voice. Fantastic read (well, listen).

Rolling Stone founder, co-editor, and publisher Jann Wenner's deeply personal memoir vividly describes and brings you inside the music, the politics, and the lifestyle of a generation, an epoch of cultural change that swept America and beyond. The age of rock and roll in an era of consequence, what will be considered one of the great watersheds in modern history. Wenner writes with the clarity of a journalist and an essayist. He takes us into the life and work of Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Bono, and Bruce Springsteen, to name a few.

Jann says the quiet parts out loud.
Reviewed: 11-01-23
In this book Jann Wenner says the quiet parts about himself and his life at Rolling Stone out loud in a way that, like him, is completely tone deaf. All this time I thought that Rolling Stone was the guidebook to the counter culture- which is is to some extent but it is also run by a man who really does represent everything that there is about the establishment. This book coupled with STICKY FINGERS (also on audible) gives a full picture of how problematic Jann was as the ultimate rock and roll gatekeeper. He wasn't finding great music with his magazine- he was simple helping to market it. Sometimes they got it right but It is painful to realize how many great artists got pushed down because Jann Wenner didn't see any money or opportunity for himself in it. Hopefully that era is coming to an end.

Story
In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian-American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food.

It is a beautiful book that - as I turn 50 find myself recommending to people who are in similar situations. A plus.

Revisiting the feelings that I had when I read this book the first time around. Perry had it all - and not all of it was good. Sadly he wasn't about to keep in the fight that he was on and his battle ended tragically last week. Not sure if I could read it again without the promise of that happy ending but now it lives on as a cautionary tale and probably will help people who need some encouragement while they face the darkness of addiction and substance abuse.

Story
Without Nebraska, Bruce Springsteen might not be who he is today. The natural follow-up to Springsteen’s hugely successful album The River should have been the hit-packed Born in the U.S.A. But instead, in 1982, he came out with an album consisting of a series of dark songs he had recorded by himself, for himself. But more than forty years later, Nebraska is arguably Springsteen’s most important record—the lasting clue to understanding not just his career as an artist and the vision behind it, but also the man himself.

I received Nebraska as a birthday present for my 9th birthday - the same year that it was released and it helped shape my early love of rock and roll and "street poetry." 40 years later the record is largely regarded as one of the most important records that anyone could have in their collection. Zanes' deep dive into the back story of Nebraska opens up a new lens for us to view this amazing piece of music, art and poetry. It is one corner of Bruce's career that is often ignored -but true fans know that "This is it." Great read.

Lennon. Dylan. Jagger. Belushi. Leibovitz. The story of Jann Wenner, Rolling Stone's founder, editor, and publisher, is an insider's trip through the backstages of storied concert venues, rock-star hotel rooms, and the political ups and downs of the latter half of the 20th century, right up through the digital age: connecting the counterculture of Haight Ashbury to the "straight world".

If you are like me then you have a love hate relationship with Rolling Stone Magazine. Sticky Fingers is a great account of he life and times of Jann Wenner that shows him and his story warts and all. I read this one after reading Jann's autobiography and it is interesting to see how these stories line up perfectly. The only real difference is that Jann paints himself as the hero in everything the he does. Hagan paints him as he really is/ was. If you love to love/hate RS like I do- you will love this book.

In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history. Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.

This book was enjoyable but I have to say it could have been so much better. It was clearly ghost written- which normally wouldn't bother me but it often didn't feel like it was in Britney's voice. Sadly, she also still doesn't seem to be in control of her own story and that makes it feel a bit disingenuous. It felt a little weird to hear Michelle Williams narrating. It would have been nice to hear it in Britneys own voice but Williams does a great job as a reader.

Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my audiobook, Yearbook for websites and shit like that, so...here it goes!!! Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”) I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like.

The book feels like you are in the room with Seth as he tells you these wonderful tales of his adventures in Hollywood. Exactly what one might hope the get from a book like this!
