A Potent Book Packed with Valuable Insight and Applicable Methods, Wrapped Into A Tremendous Family Business Story.

Read mostly by the author, who has a distinct and easy to follow voice, the Ad Man is a great listen that succinctly wraps the life story of Jim and Cecelia Mudd, and their family, into an understandable and entertaining context. There are frequent mentions of applicable lessons that can be consumed and implemented by any entrepreneur or business person, new or seasoned. I highly recommend this book.

Story
At twenty-eight, fresh from Stanford’s MBA program and steeped in the move-fast-and-break-things ethos of Silicon Valley, Andy Dunn was on top of the world. He was building a new kind of startup—a digitally native, direct-to-consumer brand—out of his Manhattan apartment. Bonobos was a new-school approach to selling an old-school product: men’s pants. Against all odds, business was booming.

Honest, reflective, and one heck of a ride..

Wow - there’s a lot in this book

Besides getting the full Bonobos story from Andy’s perspective, which is fascinating on its own, the full transparency Andy offers, and reads, around his mental health challenges is incredibly honest and interesting. I have been a Bonobos fan from nearly the beginning, and an Andy Dunn fan, abs now I’m a huge Andy Dunn fan. Thanks for having the guts and generosity to share your story. It will be exciting to see what comes next from Andy and his team.

Story
As a young boy sitting at a sewing machine in home economics class, Craig Conover had no idea that this hobby would one day change his life for the better. Growing up in Delaware, Conover experienced cruel bullying and suffered from severe anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder. But while law school in Charleston seemed to provide the direction he needed, Conover spent years searching for meaning and passion in life. The chance to become a cast member on Bravo’s Southern Charm promised to provide that.

I was skeptical, the books is great
Reviewed: 04-30-22
I thought I knew Craig’s story from his Bravo shows, but I didn’t know the whole story. Craig tells it well and I’m glad he reads it too. The first chapter is hilarious because it seems like Craig is yelling, but that doesn’t last long, and laughing is a good way to start a book. I’ve listened hundreds of books, this is in the top 5%. I highly recommend giving it a chance. Enjoy!

Story
Leadership isn't easy. It takes grit, courage, and vision, among other things, that can be hard to come by on your toughest days. When leaders and aspiring leaders seek out advice, they're often told to try harder. Dig deeper. Look in the mirror and own your natural-born strengths and fix any real or perceived career-limiting deficiencies. Frances Frei and Anne Morriss offer a different worldview. They argue that this popular leadership advice glosses over the most important thing you do as a leader: build others up. Leadership isn't about you.

Excellent Content, Very Helpful Book

I have only positive perspective for this book. It is great, the content has proved helpful in hiding my thinking and action for our organization. The shared experiences and perspective are incredible as well. My only feedback is that I struggled with the narrator, and I’m not sure why, but the tone and voice made it hard for me to stay engaged, so I did a lot of repeating in parts.

I cannot quantify the amount of value this book provides. Gary V is a unique individual with very clear V self awareness that is well communicated. I listen to a lot of books, and this is a top 5.
