The plays are edited so much that what is left is not. Representation of the works- but even worse— the reading is horrible— don’t waste your credit- I listened to a few minutes of The Spanish Tragedy and Thomas of Woodstock— I had to stop. It is just that bad. One star is too high a praise

Story
George Eliot's most ambitious novel is a masterly evocation of diverse lives and changing fortunes in a provincial community. Peopling its landscape are Dorothea Brooke, a young idealist whose search for intellectual fulfillment leads her into a disastrous marriage to the pedantic scholar Casaubon; and the charming but tactless Dr Lydgate, whose marriage to the spendthrift beauty Rosamund and pioneering medical methods threaten to undermine his career.

Great reading, but missing parts
Reviewed: 07-29-24
This is a review of the audiobook and not of Middlemarch, which has stood the test of time and does not need a review.
The reader does a great job with the characters and brings them to life, and if I were to judge that aspect alone, I would give it five stars; however, I am disappointed that the prologue and poems at the start of each chapter were not read. In my opinion, it is not a complete reading of Middlemarch.

I did not find it helpful

Maybe the issue for me is that this subject doesn't fit an audiobook. Close reading is required to absorb it truly. Personally, I found the explanations weak and the examples just okay. Again, the audio style for this type of learning just doesn't suit me.
Plenty of other reviewers gave it high marks, but even in book format, I think you could find it far better.
Hey, this was free and didn't cost me a credit. i am still returning it.

Schopenhauer was just 30 when his magnum opus, Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung, a work of considerable learning and innovation of thought, first appeared in 1818.
Much to his chagrin and puzzlement (so convinced was he of its merits), it didn't have an immediate effect on European philosophy, views and culture. It was only decades later that it was recognised as one of the major intellectual landmarks of the 19th century.

Using Idea instead of Representation is confusing
Reviewed: 02-11-24
Using "idea" instead of representation is a poor choice, as Schopenhauer uses "idea" later in the platonic sense. There are also a few places where I question the translation. Since it is the only available choice on audible, I guess it will have to do, but honestly, I bought the book, and The World as Will and Representation is far better than this translation. The two-star rating is for the poor translation. The work is outstanding and worth reading. If you have never read it, I would suggest first reading On the Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason.

This is a decent audiobook, and you will not waste your credit on it; since I always read a chapter and then listen to it, I noticed two issues that I will point out.
1: The footnotes need to be consistently read. You will miss many of the footnotes if you do not have the book handy.
2: The are parts of the book that are not read. It is worse in Part one, Fantine.
Overall, it is a decent reading, and it is a decent reading of an excellent translation.
