Acerca de esta escucha

Your argument is valid and you know it; yet once again you find yourself leaving a debate feeling defeated and embarrassed. The matter is only made worse when you realize that your defeat came at the hands of someone's abuse of logic - and that with the right skills you could have won the argument.

The ability to recognize logical fallacies when they occur is an essential life skill. Mastering Logical Fallacies is the clearest, boldest, and most systematic guide to dominating the rules and tactics of successful arguments. This book offers methodical breakdowns of the logical fallacies behind exceedingly common, yet detrimental, argumentative mistakes, and explores them through real life examples of logic-gone-wrong.

Designed for those who are ready to gain the upper hand over their opponents, this master class teaches the necessary skills to identify your opponents' misuse of logic and construct effective arguments that win. With the empowering strategies offered in Mastering Logical Fallacies you'll be able to reveal the slight-of-hand flaws in your challengers' rhetoric, and seize control of the argument with bulletproof logic.

this book contains so much great information that I'm going to have to listen to it again to really absorb the information. again. The author does a great job of explaining things and doesn't add a lot of fluff to the message. I did find though that the book was easier to listen to once I sped up the pace to $1.2 playing speed instead of normal.

You'll want to listen to it multiple times

The equivalent of hearing logical fallacies discussed by Monte Python. I love the British accent and playful voice of the descriptions.

Well done!

if you want a solid breakdown of common logical fallacies, how to respond to them, how to spot them in yourself, give this book several listens!

Quick. Clear. Memorable.

It's a good, concise book. But I have to dock you points for using "The Simpsons" and other tv show episode references for two of the "real life examples". That's just not accurate enough for a book teaching logical fallacy.

good introduction

just a long list.

useful but very dry

I very much enjoyed this book, part of a series I'm reading on informal logic. The fallacies are presented with examples and sample responses, and each section is short enough to finish within a few minutes, and pause to think or relisten to the audio. Very well done.

Bite sized, digestible chunks

This is an extremely useful and organized perspective of fallacious logic. It’s humorously written, modern, and approachable. Ignore previous reviews that clam this as “bias” these are clearly right-wing Enthusists who have trouble hearing examples that include people like President Obama or examples that question theories such as “flat earth.” The irony is that many of these examples that the author uses are exactly the reason logic was invented in the classical era. If you can’t hear or accept logic because it has references that you don’t feel good about, this is a primary fallacy. Appeal to Anger and even Ad Hominem: Guilt by Association.

Completely logical ,ignore reviews claiming bias

I listened to this book prior to buying the paperback hardcopy for future reference. The audio is a decent listen. The book itself is a nicely indexed and formatted reference. Good to have in a home library for identifying the fallacious techniques being deployed on the world stage today. critical thinking skills are more important now than ever.

very handy overview

A lot of political undertones. I was hoping to have something void of politics and I was sadly disappointed.

The concepts proported are very educational, but there is a definite bias in the examples that at times negates the validity of the point being made. Such as, the author has a bias in the examples against religion in many examples accepting the theory of evolution as fact when both the theory of evolution and the theory of creation are theories and by nature of a theory not unchangeable in understanding as more information comes to light. The author also uses modern social opinions and makes a case for one particular view point.

That being said, an astute reader who is willing to overlook the inherent human bias can glean many important lessons regarding conversation and defense of one's point from this book.
