The Angel's Blood series is one of the best series I've read in a long time. Singh's built a wonderfully complex new world with great characters and interesting storylines. You won't be disappointed. The narrator is excellent as well.

Good not great **Spoilers**

This book was good but not as emotionally satisfying as some of the others. Payne was as advertised. She had that mix of innocence and warrior which is pretty much what I expected from her. Manny was pretty much what I expected too. Loner who doesn't know he's missing anything out of life but suddenly finds his shellan and "Mine." It was a little too quick and I think that's the problem. The pacing on this book is off. The storyline didn't really have time to develop in the week or so the book covers.


Payne's hurt, Manny gives her sexual healing, Manny can't deal with the vampires and Payne’s impact on him for like six hours, Payne's kidnapped and rescues herself in one night, Manny finds out he's Butch's half-brother and Manny/Payne have sex, the end. Okay, hard to get invested in that storyline. True.


The best part of the book was V/Butch/Jane. Poor Marissa is barely mentioned except to nod approvingly as Butch goes off to fix V. The emotional dynamic between V/Butch and to some extent Jane is just terrific. Love how Butch knew what to do to help. V and Jane's resolution was satisfying. Love the bond and the humor between them all.


Not enough Blay/Quinn. Ward keeps teasing her readers with this couple. If she continues to tease her readers with will they/won't they for too long with no payoff, nothing she writes is going to be enough to satisfy the people who are invested in the m/m couple. She's already said she can't sell a whole book on these two because her readership won't support it so get on with the novella and give fans of Blay/Quinn a break.


The new guys are interesting. Definitely a hook for future books. Not enough of the other brothers. No Rhage humor, no Phury/Zadist to speak of. The shellans must all be on vacation because I don't remember seeing/hearing anything about them.


Overall a decent read but not one I want to listen too over and over except for the Butch/V parts.

Boring

The best thing about this book was the narrator. Smooth as silk voice. The rest was just well, boring. Whiny heroine, arrogant male hero and just endless dialogue that really didn't move me emotionally or entertain me with the plot. I know that's asking a lot of PNR BUT JR Ward and Jeanine Frost seem to manage it.

Other books are better

Love Cat and Bones! Great characters and I think Bone's voice is perfect. If you read his character, the voice fits him like a glove. All these suave vampires with great melodic voices and then there is Bones. Tough, working class English but completely unique. Really sets him apart from Spade, Ian and Vlad, etc.

I started this book but only listened to parts of it because I knew the ending wasn't going to be happy. Yeah, I know they get back together in Book 2, but... Then I read the rest of the series, then the Night Huntress World series before coming back and finishing this one. Night Huntress and Night Huntress World is a series you need to read in order. The relationships built in the earlier books really set the stage for the later books.

Overall I love this series and have listened to them multiple times. There aren't many I can say that about.

A Good Start

I actually "read" all these books out of order so I'm reading the last one first. It really is a good start for this amazing series. Wrath, the reluctant king, and Beth, the daughter of Darius, are a great match. Love JR Ward's storytelling capability. There is a lot of violence and sex but there is more character development than in most any series I've ever read. Some complain about the lack of plot but these stories are really about the people and a complicated plot really isn't necessary. JR makes you care so much about these characters. The pace is just right. Plus I love the narrator. Really enhances the book experience.

Just a great story

I almost didn't buy this because of the book reviews from other places. All kinds of criticism about lack of romance, weird ending and too much violience. Honestly I think it was one of the best ones she's written. I really thought the story between Vishous and Jane was quite unique and compelling. People complained about the BDSM like it was 90% of the book. It was barely noticable. Yes, the ending was not traditional but these are fantasy books. Laughable to say that the HEA doesn't work because of Jane's condition. What drew me in was the relationship between Vischous and all the other characters. All the sub plots really enhanced this story too. The SV and the choice of Phury as the Primale set up the next book perfectly. I've already read Rhevenge and JMs stories and this feeds into it perfectly.

Love Ward's gritty writing. She's really ruined me fo the fluff kind of vampire books. These characters come to life with complex personalities and stories catch and hold my interest so completely. Can't wait to move onto Phury's story.

Loved the main story not the reality TV

Okay, I love these books. They have so much depth to them. So many paranormal stories are too soft and mushy. The gritty aspects of their lives and the sex is a big plus for me. As far as Lover Mine, I read many of the complaints on Amazon about the the multiple secondary stories and I agree they disrupt the main story here. Aside from that I loved the JM story. I thought it was really a great story about these two characters. I loved how JR Ward exposes their strengths and weaknesses. Really engrossing writing and storytelling. I felt she exposed more of the raw elements of each character and the ending although somewhat out of character for Xhex was satisfyingl. Can't wait to see how Quinn and Blaylock turns out. That secondary story was had a real emotional impact on the reader. All the anguish and torment that some go through when they realize they love someone of the same sex and don't know what to do about it.

Good story but needed more development

Agree with other reviewers that while this story was good, it needed more story development. At this point in the series, it would have been good to extend the story once they returned to Hell's 8. Tracker and Ari's relationship needed more time as did Ari and Desi. Plus the whole storyline around killing the bad guy was short changed.
