One of the best books I’ve read in a long time!
Reviewed: 03-13-25
I loved many things about this book! I loved laughing out loud, getting to know two very likable (primary) characters, the love story, the little nuggets of wisdom, and the special town “with a soul” I believe. The narrators were excellent! They made the characters so real!!! I don’t think I’ve read/listen to more than 3-4 books more than once, in my life. And I’m 62 and love to read! . This one I will listen to again! Excellent book! Would make a great movie too!

Story
Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It's somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn, but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour. So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn't fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she's kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She's given up hope of seeing him ever again.

Story
The first time I met Chase Parker, I didn't exactly make a good impression. I was hiding in the bathroom hallway of a restaurant, leaving a message for my best friend to save me from my awful date. He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice. So I told him to mind his own damn business and went back to my miserable date. I couldn't help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room. Of course, he caught me on more than one occasion, and winked.

I enjoyed this book, because of the story and because Maxine Mitchell, the narrator/performer is so so good at what she does! I like the characters, especially the female main character, because MM gives her so much feeling that it’s like being in the character’s head. And she’s so likable. And when she performs the main male character, it’s easy to forget it Ms Michell’s voice and feelings! So good! They are an excellent team.

I enjoyed this book so much! The author and the narrator/performer made this a book one that drew me in to both of the stories of the 2 main characters. Back and forth in time, current and a grandmother’s young years, The relationships felt so real between many of the characters. It was easy to get pulled in and to keep wanting to know what happened as well as what WILL happen! Incredible narration! It blows my mind how well she performed this book, giving different voices consistently to the primary characters, and with such feelings that it was easy to feel the same! I enjoyed this book so much!

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

This story really pulled me in from the beginning. Writing that made this main character so real, plus excellent narrating/performing, invited me in to this woman’s life and head. I enjoyed this book a lot. It included some very useful insight that some people will no doubt relate to, and/or be interested in how she and some other characters feel and live their lives, especially in relationships with partners. This narrator/performer did such an amazing job giving different voice to so several characters! I am so impressed by her ability to do that! It made the book come to life.

Story
A successful LA artist, Roman Velasco appears to have everything he could possibly want - money, women, fame. Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has. The demons of Roman's past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breathtaking Topanga Canyon view. But Grace doesn't know how her boss secretly wrestles with those demons: by tagging buildings as the Bird, a notorious but unidentified graffiti artist - an alter ego that could destroy his career and land him in prison.

Well written and performed!

I enjoyed this book very much! First , I have to say that the narrator/performer, Susan Bennett, was exceptional. Her ability to change voices for various characters and keeping that straight, combined with her voice and the pacing and feelings expressed as she performed, were a huge part of helping me get into and stay with the story. But the whole novel was created by an author,
Francine Rivers, who very thoughtfully brings listeners and readers along on 2 people’s journeys, with some skillfully woven in, significant life events for each character, from their pasts, to help us understand who they are “today”. I hesitate to say too much re the whole story, because I think the author’s intentions are good, and she leads the listeners/readers into one option of how to cope with and live one’s life, Even if that way isn’t already practiced or appealing to the listener, it’s very thought provoking in a good way. I recommend this book.

Another great book by Molly McAdams!!!
Reviewed: 12-13-24
Towards the end of the first (?) book by Molly McAdams (MM) I paused to see if there are other books on Audible by her, so I knew I could end it and then start another! I get so invested in the main characters and spend hours listening to her books as I drive, do laundry, paint, etc. I’ve stopped watching tv almost entirely which is so unlike me. I’d rather listen to books, and MM’s are some of my recent favorites. The emotions are so raw and real. The stories are interesting and something about her style of writing pulls me in.
I’d also like to add that the narrators/performers were excellent! I was impressed by both of their skills with having several character voices and keeping them straight. They performed with such feeling that it adds to the enjoyment of the book!

The story was easy to get invested in, with great descriptions of the main character’s feelings related to events the book was written about. The performer/narrator had to create and keep straight several different people’s voices which was so well done! So the combo of a good story and her performance made for a very gratifying read!

I listened to this book by Sarina Bowen in about half of a week, after reading many of the great reviews. I am so glad chose this book! The author is an excellent story teller, and I cheered and cried at point because I felt so connected to the main character! The performances by Kathleen Early, Gary Tiedemann, and Jason Clarke were fantastic! I especially appreciated Kathleen’s performance. It was excellent! I almost never cry listening to a book! Her feelings were conveyed so well, which I imagine the author really applauded!! Together these people created a very interesting and heartfelt mystery and love story. Touching in so many ways all the way until the end! Thank you to them!
