The way the prime characters interacted was a most definite positive! Olive and her big sister are definitely characters that need their own series!

The incomprehensible storyline
Reviewed: 10-22-24
I like the most that this is the last book in this series! I won't need to waste money on any more of these!
This book has several characters that went by multiple names, trying to keep them separate and give them a presence in the storyline became beyond tedious! If Mr. Dugoni started out with the intent to make readers back up several chapters in order to try and make sense out of what is going on, he dramatically succeeded! it took me over 20 actual hours to stumble through this book.
Thank you Mr. Dugoni! it will be a long time before I buy another of your books.

Far, FAR too many names for too many characters!!!
Reviewed: 07-08-24
This is the second time I've read this book. I actually read it back to back because I was so utterly confused the first time, I hoped that reading it a second time would clarify it for me. No such luck!
I believe Ms. Jewell has the best intentions to create a mystery that her readers would be bound to. Yet, for me, the multiple characters that have multiple names simply and truly left me lost!
I've read many of Ms. Jewell 's books and I love many of the "series" books, but the stand alone novels are an overload of twists ... and then we're 25+ years earlier... and then the same person is dead... but then no one actually saw the death.........
I apologize for the one star rating, but I much prefer series books from this author.

This story was hard to follow!
Multiple characters have different names and it's raining ALL THE TIME!!! As with the real world, rain makes it difficult to see details, the same is true in this book!
I cannot recommend this book, but the author has done other works that are intriguing... and may I add, interesting!
Seek out other books byLoreth Anne White! 😁

Lovely Girls = drama, this book is OVER-DRAMA!
Reviewed: 11-01-23
I imagine I'm not the target audience for this book...
A 60+ year old retiree that likes mysteries, I've learned that the type of drama contained in this book is simply not for me.
I feel foolish for not listening to the sample before purchasing Lovely Girls! And while the narrator did an admirable job with this book, the content simply did not fit my taste. Mean girls apparently come from Mean Mothers, if this book is to be believed.
The toxic, two faced, gossip mongers portrayed in this book are the type of people most adults typically wash their hands of! I have had these toxic people in my life in the past and eliminating them from my circle was the best thing (for me) that I could have done! I learned as a teenager that it's nearly impossible yout nasty, Nasty People!!! Typical Nasty People have YEARS of experience being nasty and it's impossible to out-Nasty a professional!!!
Beatrice, the therapist in this story, although she has a very small part, is the most believable character and I, for one, would purchase another book from this author if there were more Beatrice content!

I truly had a difficult time following this book! I actually had to restart it three times, the last one was after I was in over 2 hours. If you were to ask me now (within 5 minutes of finishing) what this book was about, I could tell you that it's set in a fictional Michigan county but closely resembles an actual northwest lower Michigan city, and the prime character is a doctor, and child of a former medical examiner.
Beyond that, everything contained in this book 100 percent eludes me.
I seriously struggled to finish this book, but I have enjoyed many from Jennifer Dornbush in the past!
Will I purchase others from this author?
YES!
Will I purchase anything else in this series?
No, no thank you.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this book.

I truly apologize for the title of this review! But even though I comprehend the intent is to have the reader feel the struggles the Midwife went through, I simply couldn't understand what was going on at any particular point.
I DEFINITELY Struggled with this book. I have 3 other Diane Chamberlain books in my library but this one just couldn't keep my interest.
I was just over 3 hours from the end, again... because I had started this book two times, and I realized I was just as lost this time as I was the first time through...
I can't honestly recommend this book.
In my mind there are FAR too many characters, far too many calendar switches and far too many emotionally impaired characters that either Are Related or Are Not Related for me to keep these characters straight.

MacKinlay Kantor, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and master storyteller, shows us how the South could have won the Civil War, how two small shifts in history (as we know it) in the summer of 1863 could have turned the tide for the Confederacy. What would have happened: to the Union, to Abraham Lincoln, to the people of the North and South, to the world?

Even though this is a 2 hour book, I struggled to finish it! I am not a history scholar, and as such, this book is incredibly difficult to follow! In my opinion, this book is simply a two plus hour opportunity to string together words that (in the context of this book) have little relationship to the words on either side of any particular word!
I considered purchasing the book, Andersonville, authored by this book writer. And while Andersonville won a Pulitzer, the only way I can see buying another book by MacKinlay Kantor would be if I hadn't slept for several days in a row and needed a non-pharmaceutical alternative for sleep.
