The story had a slow start. The beginning doesn’t tie in well to the rest of the story. As the story progresses and the characters are developed, the story becomes very engaging. The environmental message is of great importance.

The story was too detailed at times and meandering. Would have been a better read if edited to stay on point.

This was an eye opening cultural story. Much was learned and appreciated by the limits of women in a certain culture. However, the ending does not match the rest of the story and leaves the reader confused on the events of the main characters. Very disappointed that the story didn’t end with the same line of events presented throughout the book.

Overall story gives an important perspective of youth stuck in poverty and the unhelpful and even damaging impact of our various social systems. However, confusing to follow at times, particularly when the story went backwards to tell of the parents’ childhoods.

Great story that keeps you invested the entire time. You cheer for April and just when you think all will be alright, her life is turned upside down. You really wonder if April will get her happy ever after.

At times it was hard to follow this story. It lacked flow and some details that would have provided a better context. However, the author’s account of her life story was very moving.

Very entertaining story. Ending was unpredictable, though slightly disappointing as you root for the characters.
