Kinch Na Shannack owes the Takers Guild a small fortune for his education as a thief, which includes (but is not limited to) lock-picking, knife-fighting, wall-scaling, fall-breaking, lie-weaving, trap-making, plus a few small magics. His debt has driven him to lie in wait by the old forest road, planning to rob the next traveler that crosses his path. But today, Kinch Na Shannack has picked the wrong mark.

Amazing, took me a few minutes to get used to the cadence and accent. I go through around 3 credits a month, most books and performances are fair to good, this was great on both accounts and by the same man.
Well worth the credit, looking forward to the next installment

Story
Science is how we understand the world. Yet failures in peer review and mistakes in statistics have rendered a shocking number of scientific studies useless—or, worse, badly misleading. Such errors have distorted our knowledge in fields as wide-ranging as medicine, physics, nutrition, education, genetics, economics, and the search for extraterrestrial life. As Science Fictions makes clear, the current system of research funding and publication not only fails to safeguard us from blunders but actively encourages bad science—with sometimes deadly consequences.

Heard about this on Mysterious Universe podcast so gave it a try. Great listen, author has clearly well researched the issue of fictional scientific reports and presents plausible ways to deter such occurrences. It was astounding to realize how much this happens and gave me a new lens of skepticism. However, if you're looking to justify refusing vaccines or a flat earth, that's not here. This author is striving to save scientific reports from falsehoods in order to combat exactly those extreme beliefs. Best non fiction book of 2020 for me.

When invaders throw the kingdom into turmoil, Chel finds opportunity in the chaos: if he escorts a stranded prince to safety, Chel will be released from his oath. All he has to do is drag the brat from one side of the country to the other, through war and wilderness, chased all the way by ruthless assassins.

Good story, uneven audio volume
Reviewed: 12-05-19
Above average story well performed. While the twist wasn't mind blowing, it was good and a well thought out plot. The pace of the story was a bit rushed in the first few days depicted. Aside from that this was a great story and contains a fountain of lore the author masterfully weaved in to the dialogue. Highly recommend to anyone on the fence.
An annoying thing that may or may not be isolated to my experience was the uneven audio volume. I appriciate the reader varying his voice to enhance the experience but I had to turn up car and headphone volume to hear certain parts, then would be assaulted when he returned to a standard volume. Perhaps an audio mixing issue, or maybe just my unique situation.

Great Author and another great story
Reviewed: 01-05-19
I was a huge fan of the Red Knight, but got a little lost as the series unfolded with the various characters. I believe this series seems to have taken allot of the historically accurate or realistic sword fighting scenes and funnel them into a tighter narrative. I highly recommend this to any fan of the genre. My only humble critique is that the ever present evil force working to plunge the world into chaos is a touch one dimensional, but perhaps not due to a lack of depth but maybe a lack of exposure to the reader in book 1? As the writers says in a slightly different way, everyone is the hero to their own narrative. and yet we only hear glimpses in book one for the master antagonist true motives beyond power and greed. As for the reading performance it was well delivered with a steady cadence and just enough voice variation to make the story more immersive without becoming a distraction. Once again I recommend this purchase to any fan of fantasy.

Not what I expected, but great "RPG" fun
Reviewed: 11-14-17
I don't think the Audible book description quite fits, but if you've ever played an RPG video game WoW or D&D this story is a great twist on some classic tropes of the genre. No, this is not some high level thought provoking fiction. It's a fun witty and entertaining story masterfully performed. I agree with some reviewers that the material is a bit juvenile, but that's what makes it so fun. Ever wonder what it would be like to live in one of the campaign worlds from any of the great RPG games? What about the lives of the monsters you always fight? Then read/listen to this book and prepare to laugh aloud while also feeling oddly connected to the most unique anti hero I've come across in some time.
