Story
Hockey coach Ashley Jaswal doesn't take nonsense from anyone … except her overbearing and superstitious family. They believe she's a good luck charm for her brother Jas, the newest Vancouver Canucks draft pick, forcing Ash to attend all his games as he rises up the NHL ranks, sacrificing her personal life (not that she has one—who decided hockey season needed to be 10 months long anyway?). Ash also clashes with Jas’s teammate, Canucks captain Devin Snyder.

Story
If my time with Ryan Miller were a hit track on the radio, I imagine the lyrics would go something like this: We're so different, but they say opposites attract. Oops, I've fallen, and my heart doesn't want to come back. His dad lives right next to my mom, and after the two of them suffered an unexplained accident while taking down holiday decorations, both Ryan and I were forced to become the only 30something residents of Sunny Creek Village Independent Senior Living Community.

The general ploy idea seemed to be cute one and I really tried to get through it but a) the narration was so annoying, especially when the men did the female voices, b) i didn’t really find it funny, which was unexpected given im no proud and general enjoy these types of jokes and language. C) apparently the female character thinks is okay to be a jerk cuz otherwise one is too “by the rules”?? I tried, I really did. Especially to get to the promised spicy scenes but I just couldn’t.

A little bit different than what I’m used to

I love the historical aspects of this book and the ways in which differed from many stories produced today. It was a little slow at times but overall felt like a good story. I really enjoyed it. Great performance by the narrator.

Asher Donovan is a living legend—the darling of the Premier League, the (arguably) greatest footballer in the world. But his reckless antics and recent team transfer have caused much controversy, and when his feud with his rival-turned-teammate costs them a championship, they’re forced to “bond” during off-season cross-training. Surviving the summer shouldn’t be hard…until Asher meets their new trainer. She’s beautiful, talented, and no matter how hard he tries, he can’t take his mind off her.

I enjoyed the story overall. The whole protective brother thing got a little annoying sometimes but within the character’s story it was conceivable that people were overprotective so I tried to push through it. Loved the narration.

Alex Volkov is a devil blessed with the face of an angel and cursed with a past he can't escape. Driven by a tragedy that has haunted him for most of his life, his ruthless pursuits for success and vengeance leave little room for matters of the heart. But when he's forced to look after his best friend's sister, he starts to feel something in his chest. Ava Chen is a free spirit trapped by nightmares of a childhood she can't remember. But despite her past, she's never stopped seeing the beauty in the world . . . including the heart beneath the icy exterior of a man she shouldn't want.

So disappointing
Reviewed: 12-13-24
I have been loving Ana Huang’s books. Been hooked on them actually and I was really looking forward to this story but it was significantly disappointing. The male’s possessiveness didn’t work with this female character. While the age gap wasn’t significant, instead of the female character being perceived as happy, optimistic and a bit naive, she just sounded incredibly immature and childish. The level of infantalization done in this book made it almost unbearable. I almost DNF’d it but since I’ve enjoyed most of her books, I really wanted to finish it. The whispered narration did not help the situation and overall made the character sound even more child-like. I could not root for these characters. It just didn’t work for me.

I enjoyed this book overall but i felt that the male character did not leave the female character alone enough for each to truly have the growth the book said they had but I also don’t expect too much from romance novels so there’s that.

Story
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.
