Story
Uriel Ventris, newly ascended to the ranks of the Primaris, leads warriors of the Fourth Company from the Indomitus Crusade of Roboute Guilliman to a world on the frontiers of Ultramar. Once a battleground against the orks, Sycorax is now under furious assault from an enemy of ancient times – the necrons. The Ultramarines have faced these baleful xenos before, but Uriel senses the hand of a foe from his past at work on Sycorax, a tally unfinished and a debt to the Imperium finally come due.

The performance of the Narrator is awesome. I have accepted that each Narrator has their own styles and quirks that’s why I was able to finish this one. There are so much questionable decisions that Uriel has displayed on this story, I will not spoil it for the readers of this review. I have listened to A bunch of Space Marine Audiobooks, Spacewolves, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Souldrinkers etc, but I haven’t seen a Chapter of Space Marines so easily killed or close to incapacitated. I guess the best weapon to kill a god of Necrons is basically, SPOILER ALERT! Is to reason with it. Smh.

The planet of Caliban exists much as it has for thousands of years - the knightly orders protect the common people, fighting back the beasts that lurk in the depths of the seemingly endless forests. Young Zahariel and Nemiel aspire to join the greatest of the orders, led by the example of mighty Lion El'Jonson and his vision of a peaceful and unified world. But the coming of the Imperium brings new concerns and a new destiny for the Lion as part of the Great Crusade, and the sons of Caliban must decide if they will follow him to glory among the stars.

Weird Title I know. But I am a Space Wolf Fan, and got introduced to the Dark Angels and the Lion when I listened to the Leman Russ audiobook. I find it interesting how a Knightly Order Dark Angels butt Heads with the Barbarian Space Wolves. So I decided to delve into listening to Dark Angels audiobooks. I finished the new Lion: son of the forest audiobook and it really piqued my curiosity why, how and when the “divide” and the secretiveness of the Angels began. This Audiobook is an Origin Story. How I wish the Space Wolves have a such Origin Story.

Story
Ragnar Blackmane is unique among the Space Wolves in ascending to the Wolf Guard without ever being a Grey Hunter. But how did he manage such a feat? The beginnings of that story are told here. When the Spear of Russ, an ancient relic of the Space Wolves once wielded by Leman Russ himself, is stolen, the Chapter seeks its return on the world of Garm. But when the forces of Chaos ambush them, the enraged Space Wolves learn that there is more to the attack than they could have guessed, for an ancient enemy of the Chapter is prophesied to be reborn.

Voice Acting hit the Chaos loving filth square in the face! Three Times!
Reviewed: 12-31-23
Mr. Sacramento has done a spectacular job bringing life to the Characters of the Space Wolf novels! It’s like the same voices I imagine what the Wolves might have! I just wish that somewhere down the line they, “games workshop”; won’t make a mistake of changing a Narrator when the Storyline gets all exciting and ruin the momentum because I have to adjust to another person’s way of portraying these Characters. Yes, they’ve done that before with the other warhammer series I’m listening to. It really sucked to ignore the voice changes. It’s like painting a different Character in your mind all over again. Smh. But this is really good!

I would like to start with the review by stating that each “Reader” has their own flavor to each of the books they read. And they do it as best as they can, Bringing characters to life by reading out their Names, their Voices etc. painting the personality of each Characters. I have gotten used to one “Reader” especially, just because he read almost all the Gaunt’s series and did it, in my humble opinion, spectacularly! I was eagerly waiting for the next series and to my surprise as well to all who are reading this, was “changed” to, NOT only one person, BUT TWO! It was a struggle at first to listen to a new “reader”. But the suspense of the story had motivated me to ignore the “changes”. Just musing but, did they really did “their” due diligence to listen to the old audiobooks and maybe have their “reading” style followed the previous one? I mean, come on. But anyway, the series is full of surprises. Kinda ruined for myself though. I listened to the Sabbat Crusades various stories first. Yes, yes. This series was out before that, but I was waiting for the rest of the books before salvation reach to come out. Oh well. Now, onto the next one.

hiney wolves, karen-like-battlesisters, and a Pandemic.
I get it… a Whiny Wolf Guard, a warp touched, an Old Dog, a welp, an ugly giant, a self-doubting Sword Master and a Returning Prodigal Son. I have read the Space Wolf books, Ragnar’s journey to greatness and I have also read the Wolves saga when Russ was around. They have been portrayed like vikings and dwarves ruthless with weapons like the vikings, always looking for a fight and have the bullheadedness of Dwarves… the Sagas being told over and over… the Grudges. I guess since the Legion has been left in tatters and only called a Chapter now, it’s never like it once was. These Pack can’t even Speak Wulfen… the War Cant! I get it, different writer different stories. But these have bastardized the Wolves, making them susceptible to Mere Mortals’ mood swings and doubts. Especially under Ragnar, the young Wolf-lord under the great wolf Logan Grimnar??? Sheesh. It is however interesting to see how the mechanics of a pack works. I laughed out loud when the Ultramarine mentioned the Codex Astartes…

It's the end of Gaunt's Ghosts! No, really, the Tanith First has been disbanded, and Gaunt has been sent elsewhere. What will it take to draw them back together? How about a stonking big Chaos attack? The Tanith First are no more. Moved into another regiment under a charismatic new commander, the loyalties of the former Ghosts are put to the test when Colonel-Commissar Gaunt, long believed dead, returns. As the enemy overrun the Imperial forces, Gaunt must fight not only to be reunited with his Ghosts, but to stop all their lives being thrown away in an unwinnable war.
