Zaviana is freed from slavery, only to become a slave to a mercenary who wants to protect her. She desperately wants her freedom, and she wants to convince him to help her bring freedom to all of Kaeldroga. The resistance has won a few battles against the empire, but they will not survive a war. They need a better way to defeat the army of dragon riders. They need the Dragon Stone. The Dragon Stone was an astroid that crash landed in a meadow of Kaeldroga and is said to hold magical powers inside. It is said the Dragon Stone is the reason the dragons don't have intelligence and are mindless beasts.
