• Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park, The Parks Podcast (Bonus Episode)
    Apr 8 2025

I'm often asked for park recommendations both inside and outside of Virginia. Like you, I'm always looking for a great weekend hike or campground, but also setting my sights on new places to visit on longer trips. One of my favorite resources for new parks to explore is The Parks Podcast, hosted by my friend and Richmond local, Missy Rentz.

Missy features parks all across the US, including local, state, and national parks. I especially like the diverse mix of parks she chooses to highlight. There are well known parks such as Big Bend and Death Valley, but many more lesser-known parks waiting to be discovered.

Her episodes are thorough and provide fascinating information about each park, as well as the info you need to plan your visit. I was especially grateful to Missy for her episode about the Statue of Liberty National Monument. Her advice about purchasing entrance passes and timing were invaluable when I visited Lady Liberty and Ellis Island last summer.

Missy collaborates directly with park staff to ensure that the info she provides is accurate and amplifies the work our park rangers and staff are doing to preserve and protect our public lands. I really love her style and I think you will too.

What you're about to hear is an episode of The Parks Podcast about Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park. If you enjoy this episode, be sure to click on the link in your show notes to Follow The Parks Podcast on your favorite listening app.

  • Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail, Host Steve Adams on Thru Hiking in Virginia (Bonus Episode)
    Mar 5 2025

This week I’m sharing a conversation I had with my friend, Steve Adams, or known by his trail name, Mighty Blue. Steve is an AT thru hiker and host of the popular podcast, Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail, The Ultimate Midlife Crisis.
I find Steve’s podcast inspirational for hikers and non-hikers alike. Steve interviews thru hikers while they are on the trail. The result is a raw and unfiltered conversation with people who are in the process of undertaking over 2,100 miles from Georgia to Maine.

In this convo, Steve shares his favorite memories and highlights from his thru hikes in Virginia.

As podcasters with similar audiences, Steve and I did an episode swap, so when you’re done listening to this episode, be sure to hope over to Steve’s podcast to listen to my guest appearance on his show, where I share an outrageous story about getting stranded on an island in the Chesapeake Bay when our boat was washed out by the tide.

I hope you enjoy this one-on-one with Steve Adams, of Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trial.
