  • Hugh Hewitt: Trump Marks 100 Days
    Apr 30 2025

President Donald Trump marks “100 days” in this second term.

He’s certainly been fast off the blocks.

But I want to weigh in for just a bit on the judges.

No: I’m not referring to the judiciary. I’m referring to the media: Those who have so wrong about Trump for so long it defies description.

Just about anyone in the world of journalism who is 30 and older has been pumping out "takes" on Donald Trump since he came down the escalator on June 16, 2015. I certainly have.

And they have been so wrong for so long … the collective sum of the sunk costs is enormous. Hundreds of millions of takes have been taken, predictions made and conclusions rendered. And: They’ve been wrong.

My recommendation is: Ignore them. Watch Trump. He could be transformational and successful.

There’s no question: He’s already an enormous figure in the nation’s history. He’s a president of consequence.

And: He still has over 1,300 days to go.

    I’m Hugh Hewitt.

  • Chris Stigall: All Hands on Deck: Time to Deliver the Big, Beautiful Bill
    Apr 28 2025

We’re at a critical juncture in history—with the SS America, if you will, buffeted by a political storm that threatens to escalate into a full-blown hurricane.

Our challenges threaten to paralyze markets, turning every investment into a gamble—jeopardizing the American dream.

Donald Trump, our Captain of SS America, sees the distant horizon though. He knows enduring prosperity demands policies etched in stone—tax rates locked in, regulations unshackled, spending reined in.

But he also knows stability is a mirage without massive and difficult reforms.

Trump's Big, Beautiful Bill is a crucial lifeline, providing a guide to safer shores. It offers certainty by securing tax rates, reducing reckless spending, and eliminating regulatory burdens to unleash American innovation and more. Most importantly, formalizing the findings of DOGE, which has uncovered billions lost in bureaucratic inefficiency.

    Yet the crew falters.

Republicans must deliver on this bill soon, or the hurricane will overtake us.

It’s time to get it done.

  • Seth Leibsohn: Parental Rights Before the High Court
    Apr 24 2025

The US Supreme Court this week heard arguments about whether children can be exempted from instruction their parents consider offensive.

What kind of instruction? From the Washington Post: LGBTQ story-books featuring gender transitions; same-sex playground romance; and questioning “cisnormativity” and “power hierarchies.” The picture book “Pride Puppy!” asks students to search a Pride parade for “underwear,” “leather” and a “lip ring.” A book that invites kindergarteners to ponder what it means to be “nonbinary” and “What pronouns fit?” Kindergartners.

Another book for youngsters called “Intersectionalities” comes with a foreword from a Marxist law professor at Columbia explaining the need to teach children not English and math but social consciousness.

When your kindergarten book needs a law professor’s foreword, you know you’re not in Kansas anymore—or anything near age-appropriate education. You’re in the realm of indoctrination. And that’s not what schools are for.

Parents have every right to opt their little one out of this.

The Supreme Court seemed to agree. We’ll find out in late June or early July.

  • Carol Platt Liebau: A Crisis of the Judiciary’s Own Making
    Apr 23 2025

We’ve heard a lot about how Donald Trump is causing a “constitutional crisis.” But Joe Biden’s open borders is what created the perfect storm for a real crisis—a crisis of legitimacy for our government’s judicial branch.

Here’s why: During the Biden years, seven million illegal immigrants streamed into the United States. Now, people want them deported.

But it requires no due process to enter our country illegally. It does require due process of some kind to deport illegal immigrants

For regular Americans, it’s difficult to understand why migrants can’t be removed as fast as they came. And if judges act in ways that lead reasonable people to question their impartiality — like the judge found harboring an illegal migrant in his home — the reputation of the entire judiciary will crater quickly.

That will create a real crisis — but one of the judiciary's own making.

  • Ed Morrissey: Pray for Catholic Cardinals as They Approach an Inflection Point
    Apr 22 2025

Pope Francis has passed away after an energetic and often controversial papacy. The pontiff was never as radical as his opponents claimed or as the Left imagined, but he did move the Catholic Church toward his pastoral visions of inclusion and mercy rather than doctrinal discipline.

The College of Cardinals will now set a new course for the Catholic Church in its upcoming conclave. They will enter into prayer, discernment, and private dialogue in the Sistine Chapel to allow the Holy Spirit to guide them. Part of that discernment will consider the church’s many challenges, especially regarding doctrinal confusion among Catholics as well as ongoing martyrdoms in Africa and Asia.

Those existential threats to Christians will at least factor into this decision – and they should. The courage of African bishops and priests should inform this decision and produce a new pontiff oriented to support of doctrinal courage and efficacy where the Church is growing fastest. Pray for the cardinals who will choose the direction of the Vatican that they discern wisely.

  • Albert Mohler: President Trump’s Proclamation on Easter
    Apr 17 2025

It isn't at all unusual that the White House would put out a statement, time for national celebrations, and so you have presidents making statements on Christmas and Easter and all kinds of holidays in between. What makes the statement just released by this White House by President Donald J. Trump more interesting is the fact that it includes explicit doctrinal content that I think is pretty unprecedented.

In the statement, the President says in the name of himself and the First Lady Melania Trump, he says that this celebration is about Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. It culminates in the terms of the events related to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and His resurrection from the dead.

The President's statement says, "During this sacred week, we acknowledge that the glory of Easter Sunday cannot come without the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross, and it speaks of the truth of the empty tomb and His resurrection from the dead." Perhaps many people will not notice that at the end of the statement. He also makes very clear the fact that this is a celebration of the truth, beauty and goodness of Christ's eternal kingdom in heaven.

No small thing that a President of the United States would acknowledge a higher kingdom than that of the United States of America. No small thing. It's very important. Think about it.

  • Carol Platt Liebau: Watching Meta and Their China Connection
    Apr 16 2025

This is Carol Platt Liebau for Townhall.com.

The testimony was alarming—for Meta’s reputation, but more importantly, for America. Last week, a whistleblower (who once served as Facebook’s Director of Global Public Policy) testified before Congress. She said that Meta, which used to be Facebook, had worked with the Chinese Communist Party to develop censorship tools and offer access to information on Americans.

According to the whistleblower, Meta also created and tested a custom censorship system for China when the company was trying to break into the Chinese market. It even allegedly promoted services to help that country “increase global influence and promote the China dream.”

Expect Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, to be called before Congress— as he should. If the whistleblower’s claims are true, he has a lot to answer for.

  • Hugh Hewitt: The Israel-Iran War Rages On
    Apr 15 2025

This is Hugh Hewitt for Townhall.com.

In the year and a half since the horrific massacre of 1,200 innocents on October 7th, 2023, war has raged through and around Israel and it rages still.

It's impossible to erase the record of who did what and said what over the course of what ought to be called the Israel-Iran War.

“Sometimes a flare goes up and you see exactly where everyone is standing.”

That’s Douglas Murray writing in his profound new book, On Democracies and Death Cults: Israel in the Future of Civilization.

That flare went up on 10/7 and has never for a moment dimmed. Everything is on the record. The reckoning continues.

Murray sets up the reader with a question that has haunted the world since 9/11: “What can Western liberal societies do in the face of such movements?”

The West can rally, can reject death cults, and produce a new generation of warriors.

I'm hopeful there remains within our nation the deep well of resolve to live freely and without fear, to defeat some enemies and deter others.

    I'm Hugh Hewitt.
