  • Beyond the Statistics – Unpacking Systemic Barriers in Black Maternal Health
    Apr 16 2025
The numbers are shocking—but they don’t tell the full story. In this powerful episode, we go beyond the headlines to unpack the systemic racism, medical bias, and structural inequities that continue to endanger Black mothers in America. We share the devastating, real-life stories of Kira Johnson, Shalon Irving, and Serena Williams—three women whose experiences reveal the truth about what happens when Black women are ignored, dismissed, and devalued in clinical settings. From the historical roots of medical racism to the everyday harm caused by implicit bias, we break down how the system was never built to protect us—and why change must be led by us. 🎧 Tune in as we shine a light on the barriers and elevate the call for culturally responsive care, policy change, and radical reimagination of Black maternal health.
