  • The Politics of Cynicism
    Dec 4 2024
I don't know if you've noticed recently (I'm being sarcastic) but pretty much everyone has been down in the dumps lately. Whether it's your conservative neighbor crying about some immigrant who's eating a cat or a leftist whining about not getting universal basic income or a liberal blathering about how the Democratic party needs to completely change course, even though they lost the popular by a mere 1.5%, it seems like everyone is just sad when it comes to politics now. I've noticed recently that, as I've slowly but surely gained the strength and confidence to pull myself up from the depths of depression, that many other people are displaying the same symptoms (malaise, paranoia, constant and almost inexplicable anger, instant sadness on demand, etc.) that I once frequently displayed after experiencing years of trauma and never seeking the help I needed for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not laughing at people's pain. I know what it's like to be told that your problems don't matter enough to deserve attention. However, I've also learned that none of these problems will get solved or even addressed when you're in a negative mindset, especially when it comes to politics. Many people choose to sit out politics altogether because it can be so depressing and demoralizing. Listening to people complain is not fun. It's not uplifting. It's not even interesting, and it certainly will not motivate people to vote. A lot of people are coming up with very creating, and often questionable, ways for the Democrats to win 2028. Some of these ideas involve a complete shift to the left or even moving even further to center, which, pardon my skepticism, but if that did not work in 2016 or 2024, it's not going to work now. So what was different about 2020? Why did Democrats win that election so handily. Well, regardless of what you have to say about him, Joe Biden was always optimistic. He never let the harsh realities of politics (the monied interests, the crazed right wingers, the perpetually needy left wingers, the very real threat of fascism) get him down. He'd always come out there and say, "hey, we're going to try our best to get this done." America has had their time in the spotlight criticizing Uncle Joe, but pretty soon he's not going to be around for you to blame anymore. And, you know what? All of these problems that you're complaining about today are just going to get worse when he's gone. So, as Joe Biden spends his final months still trying to get student loans forgiven, and getting absolutely no credit for any of it, it's time for us to stop blaming him, and reflect on ourselves and our choice to remain bitter and cynical throughout one of the most successful Democratic presidencies in modern history. Why are we so fucking miserable all the time? Why is it that we always have to focus on the negative? Why are we like this? There's a dark cloud currently hanging over this nation that is much bigger than Donald Trump. He is not to blame for this dark cloud. He did not make it materialize out of nowhere. This deep discontent that we all feel stems from our various personality disorders that we refuse to deal with because we are too proud and embarrassed to admit that we need help. When you are depressed and/or anxious, you are more likely to snap at others, to descend into to hopelessness, to lock yourself inside, and refuse to seek the things you deserve like a successful career and thriving relationships. We need to abandon this politics of cynicism. We need to stop listening to people who tell us that we will never be successful or happy because this or that statistic says it's impossible. We've heard enough from these negative Nellys! Enough with the Debbie downerism already. They've had their time. Let us instead remember that there is always hope. Let us hold the radical nation that we can do things, that we can accomplish difficult tasks, that we can learn new talents, that we can conquer adversity, and finally be happy.

As we all know, popular media is very good at telling one side of a story. The side of the story that they tell is not informed by some vast, government conspiracy, as some people would tell you. No, it's much simpler, yet somehow even more sinister than that. It's about money. Popular media, and its bastard son "alternative" media, is owned and operated by millionaires and billionaires. Millionaires and billionaires have very different interests than the average American. They are not concerned about putting food on the table, or anyone's table for that matter. They are much more concerned with changing your view of the world. By doing so, they can shape and mold you into the perfect little voting worker bee that they desire: a mindless, feckless, reckless consumer who doesn't think and always has his wallet open. That is what the powers that be desire, an idiot with a large bank account. They're not trying to make revolutionaries or slaves. They want you free, quite free indeed, free to go to seminars, churches, corporations, non-profit organizations, entertainment venues, strip clubs, prostitutes, herbalists, healers, beauticians, streaming services, and so on and so forth. Free to buy until you die. That is the American way, the way of capitalism. You can only dream about independence and self-sufficiency. Dream all you like, but don't you dare try to obtain or you will be punished. But the system isn't perfect. It makes mistakes. One of those mistakes is failing to deliver on the promise of the freedom to consume. Americans don't care about pronouns or saying "Latinx" vs Latino or saying black vs. BIPOC. No, that is a rich person's concern. Most Americans just want a little upward movement financially, a home, stability, a nice income, nothing too special, but America has failed at keeping the people high on bread and circuses, at least in my case anyway. You see, I believed the lie, the one spoken about in the bible, not the one in Thessalonians, that's the one every knows. I'm referring to Jeremiah 7:8, "Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit." Jeremiah is referring to the people of Judah and their hollow worship at a shrine to god, but the people are amoral. They behave in insane and deceitful ways, so god turns his back on them. I don't believe in god, but that passage speaks to me. We live in a time where people think that, if they have the temple, then they can behave in any way they damn well please. They believe they can create unfair double standards, and that the people they use, and abuse will simply lay down and take it, even like it. They are wrong. The truth shall come to light, as it always does. For decades we have listened to women complain about deadbeat dads. We nodded. We smiled. We said, "yes, that sounds awful. How horrible that man must be." And I still think that. It's horrible to leave a woman single with a child. That's not very nice. But that's just one side of the story. Men get left alone with children too. It's not as common, but it does happen, and it happens more frequently than you know. These men, these nice, decent, loving men are simply left behind by these women, and no one cares, not really. Men are just expected to pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and back to work! America doesn't care about men, especially not loving fathers. I thought if I was nice that I would be loved by a woman. I'm not perfect. I've made mistakes. But I am nice. I'm a nice person. Yet here I sit, alone, abandoned with my child, taking care of him by myself. Will talk shows invite me on to cry? No. Will entire books and movie series and TV shows be made about me? No. Will they teach young boys about how horrible some mothers can be? Ha, ha! That's a laugh. You see, you don't know the world, not all of it, not yet. But you will. I'll show it to you, if you want to see it that is. You're out there looking for romance and love. How do you know she wants that? Is she even capable of it?

  • "Entitlement"
    Nov 7 2024
This is another older episode recorded two years ago. I'll upload one from this year soon. What are the politics of respect? Who deserves respect and who instructs us as to who should be respected? Many in the upper echelons of power views us as entitled, disrespectful brats that are lazy and ungrateful for all our betters have done for us. They say that we are bad for asking them to contribute to things like the welfare system and infrastructure, that we are being unfair to them by demanding that they think of others than themselves. Every psychopath thinks in this way, and it is no secret that psychopathy and power go hand in hand, much like mash potatoes and gravy. For all the maturation my leftism has gone through over the years, all the changes of opinion on the success rate or even value of protesting, and all the grimacing I have done while watching the left utterly sabotage whatever little credibility they had left by mercilessly and constantly attacking, not republicans, but Democrats for some strange reason I still don't understand and never will, I still very much believe that the wealthy should pay taxes. I actually believe they should pay far more than they already do. Their giving to charity only ends up in the hands of certain individuals that they deem "less fortunate". That should not be left to their discretion. They should not be able to decide that a person with autism is "less fortunate" than a person with epilepsy. That doesn't make any sense. Both people in that equation are unfortunate and deserve the same amount of help. However, the way the system is designed now, the only people who get the help they need are what I like to call people with "flavor of the month problems". Autism is in right now. It won't always be. The rich will grow weary of that crusade, just as they grow weary of every crusade, and abandon autistic as well. But right now autism is having its moment in the spotlight, and really no one else is getting any help. It's rather depressing really. Why do you have to be sick to get help anyway? And why is it that certain illnesses are considered more deserving of help than others? What kind of Hunger Games bullshit society is this? What do I have to do? Transition to a woman so that I can develop breast cancer so Bill Gates will give a fuck about me? That seems a little crazy. And that's why I argue for more aggressive taxation of the rich because the truth is they only care about certain people, generally people who share problems with family members of theirs. That's no fair. It's not equal. Everyone deserves help, even healthy people. Why should we punish people for being healthy? Don't we want people to be healthy? But it's almost like you have to be dying in America for people to even give a fuck about you. I don't think that's the society that the founding fathers set out to create. In fact, I know it isn't. It has nothing to do with it, and it's weird that we allow private organizations to decide where and how that money gets spent. It's also weird that tax write offs are given for being charitable. You're literally bribing rich people to donate to charity. Why are we doing this exactly? They already have money. They don't need any more money. It's insane. All I'm saying is that these are the people who are calling you lazy and entitled when you say you would like some help. They're a bunch of people who are running legal tax scams to profit while at the same time looking like the saviors of humanity. And we're the entitled ones? What gives them the right to call us that when they're the ones demanding praise for running legal tax fraud? You can call me entitled all you like. I am still going to push to tax your ass, and the more you call me entitled, the more I'll advocate for it. Aw, poor Elon Gates Bezos can't afford another convertible. Who cares? Good! You have enough stuff! That's the point. This episode is called "Entitlement". Take the title and shove it up your end.
