God considers this salvation experience of the Jews as so important He makes this the beginning of the year, a memorial. This last plague and the feast connected to it is of ultimate significance, and Jesus death and resurrection, which flows from this, is the most important thing God wants us to remember. “Do this in remembrance of me.”

Joseph is given the directions about naming Jesus. Joseph, however, is the right person to name Jesus and help him come into the world because of his characteristics. Because of the great character of Joseph, Emmanuel, God-with-us, has come into the world. God wants us to have those same characteristics and bring Jesus, Emmanuel, into our world.
