  • Resumen

  • Larry Harnisch tells Doug who he believes murdered Elizabeth Short. But even if Larry could prove it beyond a reasonable doubt, would people even believe him after all this time? Larry’s theory lacks the splashy Hollywood appeal of Steve Hodel’s, but when Larry reveals the name to Doug, the pieces seem to fit together. But will there ever be a way to 100% prove the identity of Short’s killer? And how will Doug explain the bombshell dropped about a highly unlikely person investigating a very similar cold case murder... Elizabeth Short herself.

Clean Slate seminar on Black Dahlia story

When I was a tween I’d occasionally go to the Mall with my mother, and we’d each go our separate ways for an hour. I always went to the bookstore and it was in this time that I was confronted with the grotesque and - for me at that age and time - quite disturbing images of poor Elizabeth Shorts body in the book “Hollywood Babylon”. In the first episode, when discussion of George Hodel’s book came up, I was hoping this wasn’t an infomercial for that particular tome; it isn’t. (That photo is not Elizabeth Short. No matter how much you want it to be - it’s just not.) It’s a thoughtful, investigative look that seeks to wipe away sensational make-up of coverage given Elizabeth Shorts awful, and really just plain sad, death. Very good listen. 👍

Great unknown info about the black dahlia case

I really enjoyed this podcast and would recommend to those also interested i. The black dahlia case. I appreciate that there was an ending with a strong feeling of who did it. The only thing I would change are all the sound and musical effects. As serious as this topic was, I hate to say the sound effects made me giggle from time to time. Great investigation!! Thanks for sharing what you found.

This is great

I thought I knew this case… I don’t. They changed my mind. So obvious. I can’t believe I missed this piece over the years. Listen. Ignore the death metal segment…the rest… especially the end….is gold)

Fairly Good

The research and presentation of Larry Harnisch's work is excellent. Some mistakes and asumptions on Betty Bersinger details. Recommend reading the the newspapers of the period. A lot of the content from this podcast has already been detailed in the motion picture "Night Rain."

Straightforward and chilling

Narrator does a great job of presenting a straightforward narrative that presents the inhumanity of this murder and the mystery behind its perpetrator in a way that puts you on edge.

Educational

This seemed like the usual telling of the story I’ve read many times that concluded with Steve’s theory. I hung when I began to hear Larry’s contradiction. Glad I didn’t bail out of the podcast! It was so awesome in the end I won’t tell you, you’ll have to listen for yourself, it’s worth it!

Interesting unsolved murder

It’s always interesting to hear about a real murder and the investigation. In 1947 police didn’t have the tools that help the police today. I believe most murders can be solved today. I can’t imagine what this young woman had to endure or how anyone could do the vicious things to her alive as well as dead. The professor who included this murder in her college course thought that even though her students didn’t seem to be bothered by the pictures she showed them but that it would affect them later is true. Our society has lost so many morals these days because of TV movies and the internet that the younger generations accept these kind of atrocities as normal. There is so much violence today. So many people lack any kind of morals as well as our own federal government. As Abraham Lincoln once said that if this nation falls it will be from the people who live here.

Fascinating take on this iconic mystery

I feel that I have heard from so many experts, heard evidence on all sides and can draw my own conclusion. Just what I want in a true crime story.
