Definitely not what I would consider “self care” advice

I was disappointed when the conversation about “self care” turned to a discussion of black/brown versus white. And that white capitalism is the reason people of color don’t have and need to implement boundaries...?

There is no science to support this argument

Colonization and Capitalism

May change my mind as I continue to listen. I had to start taking notes. Episode 1 - totally on board with the beginning. She's talking about how self care does not mean spending money, say getting a pedi and massage. That is spending money, not working hard to actually feel better. Those things might make you feel better short term, but what about long term? Like feeling better all the time? Then she interviews Oumou Sylla who says her work is centered on anti-oppressive work (✅️), anti-racist work( ✅️), and anti-capitalist work (Wait what?). Then I thought, oh she means "the drive to make $", so people are jumping on the self care bandwagon to make items that people want to buy to supposedly do "self care". Kind of like the next hot trend.. aerobics, pet rocks, etc. It's a catch phrase that people are capitalizing on.
Gotcha, okay. This is confirmed when Danielle Henderson asks about setting boundaries in a non capitalistic way. Again, I take this to mean .. without spending money. Then when asked why people have a problem setting boundaries Oumou responds, "I think this really comes from Colonization and I think this really comes from Capitalism." Then goes on to talk about culture, etc. Okay, no, she's blaming our nation. Is this just some brainwashing podcast? Telling us "this is the way you think", "the people that founded (bought, built, colonized, conquered, etc) this country are to blame for everything." Even you not knowing how to set boundaries? Are you f'ing kidding me? Now, as I said.. first episode, so I could be totally wrong. We shall 👀. (PS opinions being passed off as fact?!?!?!)

Why are boundary issues a race problem?

I was excited for the topic of real self care but I am not sure we actually explored much of it rather than saying no. Disappointed.
