The approach to Agüimes reminds me of similarareas in Italy, towns perched on mountain tops, where the buildings seem to grow right out of the ground, and you can’t tell where the rock ends and the buildings begin. Its structures color the landscape in hues of beige andsunlight, and the church, La Parroquia de San Sebastián, en el casco de Agüimes, the historical downtown, beckons me from afar.

We are reminiscing about early Thanksgivings in the United States. Those sad due to loss or loneliness, the happy family re-encuentros (the reunions), and the ones that escaped us as we tried to adapt to new temperatures, a language, and culture. In the early days of our exile, if we were lucky, there would be a bodega within walking distance, but many only had American grocery stores nearby.

If you saw him walking down the street you would immediately recognize him as the happiest man on Facebook, well and maybe in Stockholm and the world! His mantra is: don't forget to be happy.

He is often seen singing Mexican music accompanied by family and friends who live in Sweden. And if not singing, he invites us to enter his kitchen to delight us with his Cuban Holguin gastronomy.

We definitely see that where we land, we make community, and for this episode, we send a warm greeting to the Cubans living in Nordic countries – a thousand in Finland, a few in Denmark, 600 in Norway, 3 thousand in Sweden, and 5 thousand in Iceland.
