Great Book, Horrible Narrator

David Sheff writes about Yoko Ono with intimacy and respect. I learned so much about her life as an artist, and a thinker. Yoko deserves this reflective and careful look at her life and it's impact.

Read this one, and do not listen to the audio version. The narrator is really terrible. His Yoko voice is distracting and insulting, at best. There is a pomposity about the presentation of the material that is off putting and hammy. Why could they not just a hire and woman to narrate this book? Yoko deserved better.

What I did not know…

An insightful account of the influence of Yoko Ono. It took some time for people to know her. And yet, some still do not.

An outstanding existence. A difficult one.

Couldn’t wait to listen to this memoir. Incredibly satisfying and long overdue in regard to the Ono Lennon’s lives. Ofc more interesting than anything. So vividly real, you will cry all over again and feel emotions you may not have felt for a long time. I prefer a memoir read by the author, but we can’t always get that. For whatever reason. A very good listen though.

Great Book, Great Narrator

I was captivated by this story and the narrator delivers a wonderful performance. The author has so many quotes and so I think it really called for a professional narrator that has the ability to bring each character to life. I learned so much about Yoko and about John too. I highly recommend.

The narrator is appalling

I was really looking forward to this book, given the author’s access, but the narrator is so awful - apparently John Lennon was Irish, and the other characters were laughable and distracting - that I couldn’t stand it, and ended up finishing the book on my own. I expect better from S&S. I honestly don’t know how this performance made it to release.
