Good book, ok narrator

I love the book and this series in general, but the narrator is wearing on me a little bit. She has some weird pronunciations... feral becomes fearal, etc. She also almost always sounds vaguely sexual, like a 1-800 line or something.

Exciting Non-Stop

I'm completely hooked on these books. BUT frequently distressed by the narrator's ignorance resulting in mispronounciations of the simplest words such as "bow".

I love Molly Harper!

She's smart, witty, and intense. She has an intriguing mix of the impossible, the fantastic and the compassion from the characters that pulls you in and makes it extremely hard to stop reading until you get to the end of the book. Then, you start to Jones for the next book.

Go Girl!!

Everywhere Joann goes there are weather problems. She is funny resourceful and always horny for David. I enjoy see her get into trouble through her altruistic endowers. I am waiting for David to tell her that if you let me kill him in book one he would not be a problem now! But??? I don???t think that would matter, since dead does not necessary mean dead. Fast cars, weather hair, great shoes, and lots of attitude makes this series a fun read.

Excellent Series

This books are a refreshing departure from most of the Urban Fantasy out there. The weather is a character causing its own plot turns. Joanne, the main character has the worst luck in the universe, no matter how much she tries to help and do the right thing, bad karma follows her around. The writing is witty and fun even in the midst of unbelievable danger and tragic endings. One thing is for certain if you read this series you will never look at weather the same way again!

Story is awesome but needs new narrator

I read this series 15 years ago on paperback and I fell in love with the characters and the scenes and action. Rachel Caine is one of my favourite authors and definitely knows how to write to bring out the flair of drama. Unfortunately..... the narrator in this series is cutting me to pieces with her inability to pronounce simple words correctly or give much difference in between every other character either. While I do recommend this series, you may be better off getting a physical copy of them to enjoy instead of this.

There’s always a bigger fish

“What is it with you and dying? Can’t you get a new hobby?”
Here we went again: Joanne struggling while everyone pushed her around, Joanne and David on death’s door for most of the book, Joanne not having a clue about who was playing her (even though by now
I called it from the start). The formula’s gotten old.

Also old is the author’s thing for bootstrapping villains. Chaz led to Oru, who led to X (won’t spoil it) who brought in yet another bigger bad. Then there’s the ever bigger apocalypse cliffhanger, enabled by the ever evolving Djinn, with rules of conduct that aren’t so much rules as an ever evolving game board.
The rules say an ifrit is forever a djinn vampire … until they’re not.

If Joanne was smarter, used magic more often, or had a cool team to take on the various factions, then
I could put up with the formula. But, no, anyone remotely interesting either gets killed or has mere cameos (Ra-hel, Louis, even Kevin would be appreciated with more screen time). And darn it: the number of hanging threads is maddening: Joanne’s sister in peril, Melvin’s connection was a breadcrumb, the Vegas cop, the bigger bad that flew away. Without resolution of a single thing, this was a supremely unsatisfying bridge book for an over long series.
