PREDICTABLE, SOME CHARACTERS WERE TOTALLY RIDICULOUS, THE NARRATOR WAS AWFUL!

I REALLY wanted to like this story and I TRIED, but truthfully, I almost didn’t make it through the Prologue. I stuck with it (painfully in many places).

The character of Ulf, a Nazi, is so “out there,” consumed by jealousy and hate, his actions make no sense. He gets his younger twin brothers involved in capturing Anna, the woman (a Jew) who ran from him in fear. The twins don’t initially know what Ulf is doing. Once they deliver Anna to Ulf, his behavior becomes very bizarre. When the brothers begin to question him, he kills one of the twins.

Dagna, (formerly one of the blood sisters) is a trainee in one of the Concentration camps, and she also consumed by hate — hate first for the other guard trainees, then as she becomes de-sensitized to the prisoners, and she learns to hate them too. She has no self-esteem and even hates herself. I think the hate she feels for everyone else stems from her own self-hatred and insecurity.

I actually enjoyed the love story of Mateo and Aria. I also enjoyed the love story between Anna and the farmer, Yvonne. He was so good to Anna after all she had been through. He was a truly good man that Anna could really trust. He stayed by her side through everything.

There was a LOT going on in this story. I did not read the first two books in this series; perhaps if I had, I might have enjoyed this book more.

I found the narrator to be absolutely AWFUL. All the character accents were the same. All the women are breathless and crying much of the time. Even the MEN sounded like the women. That’s a real pet peeve with me, that lies more with the production company than with the narrator — they should be willing to spend the money for male actors for the male characters and female actresses for the female characters and not be SO CHEAP— especially when it enhances the listening experience so much for the very people who are buying their production.

I am still debating if I am going to get my money back from Audible on this title…

The unforeseen twists and the goodness and evil of people

I loved the narrator and the totally different accents she could speak back to back. One of the best in the business.i had to take away a star because I do not appreciate social commentary in fiction stories. I pay to listen to a good book not to hear the author TRY to normalize perverted behavior and say it is from GOD . But I do love this author and have d read all her . Talking about 2nd book in this series. If this is a global; .__

The unexpected!

I love Roberta’s stories. You never know how things are going to go for the characters and it’s always something unexpected. I had goosebumps when one of the characters revealed the reason for the title. Another great series.
