Acerca de esta escucha

1929: Girls are going missing in Melbourne. Little, pretty golden-haired girls. And not just pretty. Three of them are pregnant, poor girls from the harsh confines of the Magdalene Laundry. People are getting nervous. Polly Kettle, a pushy, self-important Girl Reporter with ambition and no sense of self-preservation, decides to investigate - and promptly goes missing herself. It's time for Phryne and Dot to put a stop to this and find Polly Kettle before something quite irreparable happens to all of them. It's all piracy and dark cellars, convents and plots, murder and mystery...and Phryne finally finds out if it's true that blondes have more fun.

This was a good mystery but is also one of the harder ones to listen to inasmuch as it has genuinely abused children. There’s still plenty of humor and escapades but the writer does not shirk from the horrors of captivity, slavery and physical and psychological mistreatment. Of course Miss Fisher does a great deal to try to balance the scales.

Well told

The interesting historical aspect is sometimes so difficult to hear. In the case the Laundries that made slaves of girls. Horrible

Are you in the mood for something a bit exotic and fun. Meet Phryne Fisher.

Witty, daring, charismatic and she has a gun!

It was like visiting an old friend. It was good to reconnect with Phryne and her minions. I've been away too long. I hope this series never ends.

Loved it! Phryne’s adventures are always fun. This one kept me guessing till the end. The ending was somewhat rushed this time. As if the story had meandered here and there (with good purpose) until the writer realized they’d better wrap things up and then the real mystery was solved in two seconds. But I didn’t mind because the story was fun all the way through.

Always a fun ride with Phryne

Would you listen to Unnatural Habits again? Why?

Yes. I love the Phryne Fisher series and would listen to all of them again. They take you to another world where everything comes out okay in the end.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hmmm, I like all of them. I think I especially like Bert and Cess, the old army buddies who are also commies. They're very down-to-earth and devil-may-care at the same time.

What does Stephanie Daniel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Oh, her beautiful accent! She makes Phryne sound like the real lady she is.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Phryne giving the story to the bitter male reporter. I liked that bit.

Any additional comments?

Waiting eagerly for the next one.

Phryne Foils White Slavers!

I've watched all the TV series. This is similar but still very different. It is better. Has more surprising events with twists and turns. A 45 minute TV cannot hope to include it all

Not the TV series: Better

What did you love best about Unnatural Habits?

Kerry Greenwood has put together another excellent plot with Phrynne having to solve a number of disappearances with the help of her minions. Once again Stephanie Daniels gives a great performance.

Which character – as performed by Stephanie Daniel – was your favorite?

Phrynne is as always, my favourite character in the book and Stephanie gives her the exact voice I woulod expect her to have.

Any additional comments?

This series is a great collection of detective mysteries with the added bonus of learning about life in Australia in the twenties. Each book provides a list of interesting characters and plots and simply a lovely piece of entertainment.

Excellent entertainment and a great listen.

A well told story full of adventures. Our friends are drawn into a very dark side of humanity, which is shocking in its truthfulness.

interesting

Great story with many mysteries to unravel and solve: missing and kidnapped girls, white slavery, possible accusations against homosexual men, a reporter looking into the missing girls is kidnapped but by whom seems also a mystery. Miss Fisher and her friends set to work to discover all and clear the unjustly accused as well. Excellent narration as usual by Stephanie Daniel as usual but always delightful.

One of the Best Miss Fisher stories
