Good story

Good story. However, the performer needs to learn how to pronounce K-bar (pronounced like it is spelled, say the letter k then add bar).

Enjoyable

Good dystopian novel. Interesting twists on the theme. Looking forward to book two and how she brings it together.

Attention grabber

The characters in this book are developed well and easy to follow. Not everything adds up the way you would expect. Kept my attention and very entertaining.

Trying to find the next books are kind of a pain even when i look up the author.

a welcome change

I have been reading a lot in this genre lately and this book is a departure from many of the offerings. There is a complex plot with indepth development of varied characters. However the narrator is a particular problem for this book with all it's characters and threads because of her one dimensional delivery. In spite of this I would definitely recommend it.

Too much misery!

The protagonist was subjected to much environmental and human torture for me to continue listening.

Above average Post Apocalyptic story

Folks, I am 7 or 8 hours into Troop of Shadows. I was reluctant to take on a post apocalyptic audio series narrated by a female. Let me tell you how wrong I was. Ann Lentino is just absolutely excellent. After the first hour I no longer thought about the narrator, she’s just that good. And that’s a mark of excellence when you no longer notice the narrator. A previous reviewer called Lentino “awful”. Man , I don’t know how high your bar is but it must be in outer space somewhere. Lentino is a great narrator.

Nicki Huntsman Smith has crafted an engrossing tale of the survivors of an extinction level pandemic trying to find a place to rebuild. Granted, all the major post apocalyptic tropes are present but she does it so well that you’re drawn into the story of each group of survivors. I’ve read so many post apocalyptic novels that most of them bore me now. Not this one. I’ll be buying the next one in the series and if the writing (and narration) continues at this level of excellence I’ll get them all.

Ka-bar!!!!

Ka-bar not karbar. Every time it was said it ruined the emersion. I know, a small inconsistency, but couldnt get past it. Story had promise.

Great story, annoying audio

I really enjoyed this story. It was fast paced and I liked the characters. I really did like the narrator, but the audio mix was annoying. It goes from clear to muffled and different levels of sound. It was like it was recorded many different places with different microphones and then all spliced together. It wasn't so bad that I didn't want to listen, it was just very annoying. Other than that, really good book!

Disappointing

The writing was ok at best. The author could use a thesaurus. As a combat veteran, I have never heard the word reconnoiter used so much. The narrator's inability to pronounce KA-BAR (kay bar) and weapon calibers. It's 30.06 (thirty ought six) not (thirty oh six).
