Great Story

But can we please stop having Gina emotionally abused by her unbelievably ignorant daughter. The story line is old and annoying! Loved everything else!

Story gets bogged down

I’ve absolutely loved every book by this author until this one. I usually have no trouble following the story, but this one had so many characters and details that I often got lost and found myself zoning out of the audiobook. I had to rewind multiple times to be able to follow it. This one may be better to read visually.

The pacing is perfect, with well-timed twists and turns that kept me guessing and unable to put the book down.

The character development in this novel is superb. Detective Gina Harte, the resilient and determined protagonist, is a force to be reckoned with. Her unwavering dedication to solving the case and her personal struggles make her a relatable and compelling character. Additionally, Macie, the aspiring crime reporter and junior sleuth, adds a unique dynamic to the story, infusing it with curiosity and enthusiasm. Kovach has crafted an exceptional cast of characters, each with their own distinct personalities and motives, adding layers of depth and complexity to the story.

One aspect of this book that deserves special mention is the narration by Alison Campbell. Sluggish narrator, good story

I really enjoy the series and the author's style. Their Cold Hearts is a very good continuation of the detectives' story,unfortunately, the narrator is not right for this series. There is little to no emotion in her reading/ acting style. I started to listen to this book at night hoping it help me fall into sleep, luckily it has helped me fall asleep fast!
To enjoy this book I have found it necessary to change the speed to 1.10.
If the narrator would act this out, like Katie Villa or Tamsin Kennard, it wouldn't just be worth listening to but a great experience.

Great Book!!

Great book and great series. I also love the narrator!! Definitely recommend this series and author!!

So over Hannah & Briggs in this series

Am I the only person that is so tired of Hannah & her whole character. The constant horrible way she treats her mother is ridiculous. And the stupid Hedi grandma constantly harassing Gina and she does nothing about it! Stand up for yourself woman! She’s supposed to be this awesome detective but she can’t even scare some stupid old woman to leave her alone. And Hannah is a constant sore in this series. She’s consistently the worst character in every single book. And then Briggs acts like some stupid 16-year-old man child who is so hot and cold whether he wants Gina or not. And always swooping in when he knows her defenses are down. I’m just over their love story. I feel like I’m gonna give this series 1 more book to see if Briggs or Hannah pulls their heads out of their butts. Otherwise I’m done with the series.

Can’t stomach it anymore

Where to start? Sigh. Gina is confused as a detective, takes back the man who cheated on her, and is incompetent as a mother and grandmother. It’s at this point painful to listen to this group of mediocre characters. I feel invested in this series after so many books…but there’s only so much “holy cow, are they actually this dumb?!” one can take.
