Acerca de esta escucha

In the middle of a wonderful Christmas holiday in Dharma, Brooklyn, and Derek receive a frantic phone call from their dear friend Claire in Loch Ness, Scotland. The laird of the castle, Cameron MacKinnon, has just proposed to her! They plan to be married on New Year’s Day, and they want Derek and Brooklyn to be their witnesses. And while they’re visiting, Claire hopes that Brooklyn will be able to solve a little mystery that’s occurred in the castle library—twelve very rare, very important books have gone missing.

Once in Scotland, Brooklyn starts working on the mystery of the missing books but is soon distracted by all of the thumping and bumping noises she’s been hearing in the middle of the night. You’d think the Ghost of Christmas Past had taken up residence. But when one of the guests is poisoned and another is killed by an arrow through the heart, Brooklyn and Derek know this is not the work of any ghost. Now they must race to find a killer and a book thief before another murder occurs and their friends’ bright and happy future turns dark and deadly.

I am bored to tears

I am on chapter 5 and don't know if I will finish. I am just bored with the story. And the over the hill Scottish brogue is about to do me in. And Brooklyn's parents are not ancient like they sound. They are former hippies who were Dead Heads.

A wonderful Christmas story with a little mystery!

I always enjoy Kate Carlisle‘s books. This was a who done it and none of us found out until the very end which is an awesome way to hold a mystery. Can’t wait for her next one to come out. I hope it’s not going to be a year or so cause I so enjoy her. She takes me to another place of relaxation. The reader or the one who reads the books for us is awesome. She does a good job and brings all the characters to LIFE.

The location and references to the area and traditions.

It was kind of a nice break to be in Scotland and hear about the area etc I liked the storyline and was interested how very old traditions still cause both good and bad for people in the area. Live the characters and having Jim and Becky there was a good move. They got a chance to be more like regular people instead of constantly in high alert to more nasty criminal element. Liked having to wait to be absolutely sure who the killers were.

Another Great Adventure

Following the passing of Susie Berneis, finding another narrator must be a challenge. I do like this new narrator with the exception of how she portrays Becky and Jim Wainwright. They sound like they are 90!

Loving this book!

This book makes for a fantastic new addition to the Brooklyn Wainwright series. So much intrigue, so many great characters, such a great plot. The new narrator does a wonderful job portraying Brooklyn and switching back and forth between the different accents, especially the Scottish brogue. I do miss Brooklyn's bright and sunny mother, Becky. I hope we'll have her delightful voice back in future books. Carlisle as always gives us a great read. Besides her portrayal of Becky, Wetherell is a top-notch narrator and we are lucky to have her.

Book 17 in the awesome Bibliophile Mystery Series

The Bibliophile Mystery Series by Kate Carlisle is an awesome series and they continue to be outstanding! Book 17, The Twelve Books of Christmas, begins with Christmas in Dharma. Brooklyn and her husband Derek are surrounded by friends and family. A friend of Brooklyn's Mom stops by with her little girl Charlotte and it is a touching tribute to the meaning of Christmas. Brooklyn and Derek and Brooklyn's parents, Jim and Becky, head over to Scotland for Claire and Cameron's wedding on New Year's Day. There are 12 books missing in the library which of course intrigues Brooklyn. While looking around the castle for the books, Brooklyn and Derek find a dead body. An unpleasant local comes to stay at the castle which creates some problems. They hear noises in the night. Some of the locals are mean to Claire. There is a lot going on that has to be straightened out so Claire and Cameron can finally get married. Maybe because this is Christmas themed but there really aren't any surprises or intrigue. There are a few twists at the end to keep it interesting. Another wonderful addition to this beloved series! The audiobook is well done especially considering the number of characters, the Scottish accent, and the various ages of people. #TheTwelveBooksOfChristmas #BibliophileMystery

Slipping

Full of small but persistent and irritating errors. A good editor would have helped a lot.

The narrator

The story line was fine, but the new narrator was truly awful. That absolutely has to change going forward. Can’t imagine how anyone thought this reader was a good idea.

Narrator is not good.

I haven’t finished the book yet and not sure I will. The narrator is horrible! Brooklyns mom sounds like a 90 yr old instead of the feisty woman I have grown to love in the other books. Derricks British accent is not near as good either. And I don’t even know what to say about Robsons voice other than horrible.

Christmas in Scotland

Brooklyn and crew arrive after Christmas, but as they were celebrating the 12 days to 06 January I think it counts. Books are missing and then two people die. There is a bonfire for New Years. The ending is a bit bittersweet.
I like the narrator.
