Never knew there were so many Christmas monsters

I was expecting some Christmas Ghost Stories like it says in the song. But learning about the old Christmas monsters was interesting.

Not stories but education about them

From the title and description I was expecting / hoping for actual fables - short stories that featured the demons and creatures mentioned. What it is, instead, is a more sterile text *about* the monsters. Not "terrifying tales" but a Cliffs Notes version describing them. Interesting, but not what I wanted.

One For Us Humbugs

I was one of those kids that enjoyed Halloween more than Christmas. Fantastic lore and reader. Enjoyable listen that fits in nicely after Halloween.

More of a quirky encyclopedic format versus scary short stories

Interesting snippets or lore from around the world, though mostly euro-centric, many of which were strongly related/repetitive. Was expecting the presentation to be in story/folktale format versus a narrator telling listeners about the stories.

this book was really neat to understand the history of Christmas and the crazy made up tall tales to tell kids to behave.

St. Nicholas is a necromancer?!?

One of the stories gives the origin of St. Nicholas. While using divine intervention as an excuse he uses necromancy. Loved it.
So many stories that show how our beliefs and traditions have come to life.

Not really stories

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but I would like to point out it's more like an encyclopedia that tells you about different scary winter holiday characters.

Not so much scary

It was a boring account of historical lore and NOT scary at all! I was hoping for more along the lines of scary lore stories and NOT short, 3 to 4 minute, international background beliefs/thoughts/myths of different yuletide bad guys like Krampus, witches, or other horribles.
I totally regret wasting a reading credit on this selection and would sadly, NOT recommend!!

Misleading title and a waste of a credit.

Terrible. Just terrible. It's like a poorly written 11th grade term paper about Christmas myths.
