A whole lot of fun

Solid series of short stories tied together by Augusta's crew. More action than character development but it knows what it does well and sticks to its guns. Emma Gregory's narration is fantastic and a highlight of the book.

Favorite Sisters of Battle stories

I know there are fans of the James Swallow Sisters of Battle books, but I've always love Danie Ware's take on them. She makes them feel like people who just happen to be Battle Nuns. The stories are entertaining as heck and while there is little plot, the characters and their dynamics make it work. Highly recommended.

More than serviceable stories of the Sisters… with a few editing errors

There are too few stories of the Sisters of Battle, and this one is certainly welcome. While at times the plot is brisk and a little predictable, the strength of the stories within lie in its characters and it’s realization of a fan-favorite faction in the 40K universe, with hymns and prayers intermingling into the dialogue as seamlessly as normal speech. I only encountered one significant plot hole in the final story [[SKIP TO THE NEXT PARAGRAPH TO DODGE SPOILERS]]. The cause of the deaths of all the sisters at the convent is implied to be heart failure, despite their younger ages due to the use of a poisonous herb. This fact does not come up as suspicious by the Canoness of the order, despite its highly unusual nature, nor does it come up as a clue at all. It seems to be there to explain how the cultists were able to covertly murder the sisters without detection, but it causes a problem of its own that, with more time, may have been ironed out.

The only major criticism I have if this production are a few errors in the editing. I counted no fewer than five false-starts to sentences that should have been picked out in editing, with most of them coming at the end of the book. This could have been due to a rushed production, but it’s hard to say with any certainty. The sound quality is what you would expect: no complaints there.

Emma Gregory once again shines as the voices of the fierce and reverent Sisters, and even some very entertaining Ork voices in the penultimate story. I very much appreciate the subtlety she brings to the stern command of Sister Augusta (the protagonist).

Overall, it’s another great entry into the Black Library catalog.

Great anthology

Great anthology, all written by one author and following the start and promotion of an Adeptus Sororitas. The secondary characters were well rounded, the villains were fascinating. Give this one a go, it’s just about 15 hours and felt too short! I want to follow more of Augusta!

Excellent Intro to the Sisters of Battle

Emma Gregory delivers a fantastic performance, guiding us through the world of Warhammer 40k from the eyes of Sister Augusta Santorus. We follow the squad from world to world, facing mystery and conflict at nearly every turn. This was my first Adepta Sororitas book, and it is safe to say it will be the first of many. The world of 40k is so rich with history and lore, and the battle sisters slot in perfectly among the other factions. This audiobook is perfect for those with some general knowledge of the 40k universe and who are interested in the “nuns with guns.” Ave Imperator!

Sista!

The narration was excellent, however the story itself felt lacking and somewhat repetitive. If you are looking for some lore gems they aren't really here. The book doesn't go into much detail at any point about the order of the bloodied rose unfortunately. I never found myself talking about any of the fight scenes etc through the duration like I have with many other books. The book is pretty good,I just would have liked some lore to flesh out the bloodied rose

For the 40K lover

If you enjoy the lore and story of 40k this is a must listen, completely enjoyed the building of the story and how it was built in each short story
