Acerca de esta escucha

“If anyone knows how to be a pastor in the contemporary context that person is Eugene Peterson. Eugene possesses the rare combination of a pastor’s heart and a pastor’s art. Take and read!” (Richard J. Foster, author of Celebration of Discipline)

“I’ve been nagging Eugene Peterson for years to write a memoir. In our clamorous, celebrity-driven, entertainment culture, his life and words convey a quiet whisper of sanity, authenticity, and, yes, holiness.” (Philip Yancey, author of What Good is God)

“A good book for folks who like pastors. And a good book for folks who don’t. The Pastor is the disarming tale of one of the unlikely suspects who has helped shape North American Christianity.” (Shane Claiborne author of The Irresistible Revolution)

Hope for the pastoral vocation

I am a pastor and found this encouraging and hopeful. Eugene's down to earth commentary on everyday life within the congregation provides a vision of a faithful life.

A must read for pastors

I love Eugene Peterson. I think he is a voice to this generation that is unmatched in its sense of understanding of scripture of a story that is intended to speak to the average person. This is his memoir of how he became a pastor and what he learned about being a pastor. He was a pastor of one church that he started for 29 years before he retired to work full time on the Message Bible. I have read a lot of books about being a pastor, my whole family is basically pastors, but this is the best book on being a pastor. If we could recover pastor as a role in the way that Peterson writes about it, the church would be very different.

This is my third reading of the book and it is just as good as the first.

What a story of a Pastor and Writer

I love his story, so real, so vulnerable. I was stunned when I heard his dark moments in the career where he had a sexual scandal and an disappointing comment from his daughter on the 27-day-in-row meeting schedule.

Really helpful and well read

Would you consider the audio edition of The Pastor to be better than the print version?

Have not read the print version - listened to this book whilst travelling and at home. Found it very helpful.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

at more than 12 hours it was impossible to listen to it in a single sitting. It's a book to be pondered and reflected on.

MUST Read for those whose vocation is, Pastor

This book was thought provoking, humbling and real. It was as if I was sitting on the porch with Pastor Peterson and he was telling me stories of walking this life out with God! As young pastors, my husband and I have gone through seasons of "The Badlands"! Peterson's experience made me laugh and cry as I related to his seasons in ministry. Living this life out with God's people is what being a pastor is all about. I appreciated how he portrayed this and brings out what's important.

Very much needed

Insightful and encouraging, this work met me in a way only another pastor's story could.

Capturing the Beauty of being a Pastor

The Pastor was beautifully written in a way that captures the heart and the emotions of going through life as a pastor. Peterson displayed honesty and transparency as he stumbled his way through life. Through different stories of Peterson's life we are able to see the overall theme of being and remaining human no matter where we are in life, rather than rushing and professionalizing everything we do.
