Read this book!

Honest. Clear. Practical. Approachable.
John Mark has a way of drawing on deep and ancient concepts and presenting them in modern language that is both approachable and challenging. This book is a must read for any person asking questions about what being a follower of Jesus should and could look like in a world that increasingly presents versions of Christianity that look less and less like Christ.

Good book, some issues

This book has challenged me to think in new ways about the enemy’s tactics in deceiving the world, and how to grow in my faith to live a life well pleasing to the Lord.

I love how the author presents a strong and logical pro-life defense of unborn children.

On LGBT issues, he is somewhat soft. Problems of transgenderism are discussed, but he never explicitly labels it or homosexuality as sin — although he circles around the subject numerous times. That said, he does strongly affirm (on more than one occasion) the traditional family structure and sexual ethic of one man, one woman for life.

Politics pop up frequently, and again the author toes the line to try to appeal to both the left and right. He makes reference to “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” being one of the noble causes of the left. This is very unfortunate, and makes me wonder if he understands what the true meaning of these words are, and how utterly deceptive and dangerous this ideology is.

So, aside from cringing when leftist propaganda is briefly (and hopefully ignorantly) praised, and feeling somewhat disappointed that a more obvious stand against homosexuality was avoided, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to adults and older teens (17+).

The book I’ve been waiting for!

I’ve been thinking a long these lines for a few years. JMCs practice oriented ecumenical orthodoxy articulates the disciplines my spirit has been longing to know and follow. Thank you JMC! Praise and glory to Jesus our Lord and Savior, the captain of our faith.

This book is undoubtedly my #1 best book of 2021. I found it helpful and insightful. I would recommend this book to anyone...in fact I have recommended it to multiple friends that are not followers of Jesus, but activity seeking peace and truth.

Essential read

An urgent and compelling summary and case for what it means to follow Jesus Christ, right here, right now, and what the main obstacles are to doing so.

A thoughtful and rich reading.

In the age of the modern self, there was much in this book that resonated with me. I felt like this book was able to relate a lot of tensions, struggles and convictions I have wrestled with but have a hard time articulating. I love the way that John Mark Comer interacts with some of the great philosophers and writers of the past, but also has a good pulse on the thinkers of today, all the while staying grounded in the truths of the Ways of the Kingdom.

If you’re debating reading it, just do it!

Great book! Definitely some eye opening truths Comer shares in this one! For sure recommend :)

War of the world’s

I enjoyed your book. I hear the same connotations that Michael Knowles was writing in his book Speechless. One thing about reality and truth is there must be trust. The one thing corrupted humans are not capable of doing and this includes church leadership. I applied myself but because I was over 40 and did not fit the qualifications of Ephesians chapter four I find it difficult to follow any shepherd on this planet. The one I follow is Jesus Christ and I look into Him only for my guidance and not human reasoning or understanding.

a little woke

The author's heart is definitely centered on Christ and desires for the reader to be strong in a Christ centered relationship. However being the topic is on deception and lies I was a bit confused on his willingness to accept woke culture at face value. I understand the decision was made to attempt to be a political but to walk alongside and use woke terminology ignoring what that ideology forces on the rest of us is a miss. it's a good book and has a ton of value just be prepared to agree to disagree with some of his "understanding" of the differences in American culture. definitely worth your time especially if you put some of these strategies into action.

Compelling apologetic for thoughtful counter cultural Jesus-centered living

I struggle to understand why anyone would give this book a low review. His incisive observations of the milieu of the day and poignantly articulated exhortations are elegant- piercing, simple, observable and actionable all at the same time. Reviews critiquing this book as political are unwarranted on my perspective - to cite political examples or describe political reality that every social scientist is also noticing does not make the book political, nor is inviting believers to live out Jesus cross-bearing life in the nitty gritty areas of life, sex, community, etc., where profession of faith meets praxis. Thankful for thoughtful and smart Christians like Comer who can distill the spirit of the age so we can see it for what it is and bring us back to our ancient roots.
